AeraMax Baby DB5 Air Purifier: Trusted Review & Specs

AeraMax Baby DB5 is how the American company named their product on the European market, because this air purifier has the same specs, size, and everything as the AeraMax 100. So, basically, the purpose of our current AeraMax Baby DB5 Review is to confirm this theory.

AeraMax Baby DB5 ranks B in our air purifier ranking list. We give the biggest and most thorough database of air purifier reviews in the world.

Update: As the AeraMax Baby DB5 appears to be fully sold out, I recommend properly checking our deal before reading this review, as the review itself is pretty lengthy.

In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:

  • We provide honest reviews (both pros and cons) so that everyone can make the best decisions.
  • We do not (and never will) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.

The AeraMax Baby DB5 isn’t exactly the AeraMax 100 that AeraMax sent to the European market. In U.S., we can get one version of this air purifier in stock. Together with the AeraMax Baby DB55, we have another color option in the main personal air purifier series online. Now, let’s get back to our AeraMax Baby DB5 Review.

Other AeraMax’s Air Purifier Reviews:

AeraMax Baby DB5 Price

The AeraMax Baby DB5 represents the first credible option from AeraMax to takeon competing air purifiers from Levoit and Airthereal head-on. Between the high-end Smart Sensor and great PlasmaTrue technology, the AeraMax Baby DB5 should be high up on your list of air purifiers to consider.

It is in fact the first and foremost form of AeraMax 100, together with its brother, AeraMax Baby DB55 as the white version of AeraMax 200. Presented as a traditional AeraMax air purifier with more white color, the AeraMax Baby DB5 serves as a perfect air purifier for baby’s room.

The official price tag of this AeraMax Baby DB5 is just the same as the AeraMax 100, which is $119. The air purifier is always low on stock, so if you want one, you should grab our deal quickly.

It is one of the few air purifiers to offer the Smart Sensor for such a low price. Yeah, now you get the Airthereal ADH80 and SilverOnyx for these top-tier additional features, but you shouldn’t forget the impressive air filtration system from one brand with a long history to tell.

AeraMax Baby DB5 Design and Size

A quick design comparison of the AeraMax Baby DB5 with AeraMax Baby DB55 and AeraMax 300.

  AeraMax 100/90/DX5/Baby DB5 AeraMax 200/190/DX55/Baby DB55 AeraMax 300/290/DX95
Height (inches) 27.25 20.5 25
Width (inches) 7.25 13 16
Depth (inches) 8.5 7 8
Weight (lbs) 9.24 9.9 13.5

If you’ve already heard of the AeraMax 100, the explanation is very easy. Otherwise, keep in mind that the AeraMax Baby DB5 doesn’t deviate too far from the company’s established design language. It is thin and tall, with 27.25 inches in height and only 7.25 inches in width.

It is whiter than the AeraMax 100, but the small base and black control panel on its plastic body remind us of the finish on that other air purifier.

Add to that the similar back-to-front air flow system concept, and you can replace the air filter with the back panel. The process is still simple. just like other models of AeraMax.

Fellowes keeps the same placement for the front control panel of this AeraMax Baby DB5, so it is just a matter of choosing your favorite color to decide which one you will get. In the same series, we can select between the AeraMax 100 and AeraMax 90 for other white and black options.

You can easily move the air purifier from room to room because it only weighs 9.24 lbs. As you can see, it has a convenient handle on the back.

AeraMax Baby DB5 Filters

AeraMax Baby DB5 remains a key member of the AeraMax personal air purifier series. It has the signature 4-stage air cleaning system, with very high efficiency at trapping airborne pollutants.

  1. Activated Carbon Filter – First, AeraMax Baby DB5 uses an Activated Carbon filter to act as a pre-filter and can capture both large particles and household odors, including pet odors, cooking odors, and cigarette smoke.
  2. True HEPA filter – Next, all airborne contaminants must rest in the True HEPA filter of this air purifier, which has a high efficiency of trapping 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, ragweed, and other allergens, viruses, germs, dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander.
  3. AeraSafe Antimicrobial Treatment – Its True HEPA filter’s built-in protection prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mildew, and fungi.
  4. PlasmaTrue Technology – This is one kind of ionizer that creates an ionized field to safely remove airborne pollutants. Can be turned on or off.

The AeraMax Baby DB5 makes use of a True HEPA filter, supported by the exclusive PlasmaTrue technology, to trap even ultra-fine pollutants as small as 0.3 microns. You should remember that this air purifier is certified by both the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) for being safe and friendly to even newborns.

The AeraMax Baby DB5 is basically an AeraMax 100, so you can check the below test of performance. In a room of 100 square feet, I run the AeraMax Baby DB5 against the PureZone, Levoit Vista 200 and VEVA 8000 Elite Pro. It has a high efficiency of up to 99.8% for trapping particles down to 0.3 microns.

The CADR of AeraMax Baby DB5 is 65 Dust/ 68 Smoke/ 75 Pollen (cfm). It is still cheaper than both the GermGuardian AC4825 and Blue Pure 411 in the same price, although it takes longer to complete the air cleaning.

AeraMax Baby DB5 Sound

Though quiet operation isn’t a good trait of any AeraMax unit, the AeraMax Baby DB5 is quite good. The lowest noise level is measured to be only 35 decibels (dB), which is lower than the noise level of the library. If you hear the crackling noise, you should turn off the ionizer function. Even though the AeraMax Baby DB5 is safe, turning off the PlasmaTrue function can also reduce the amount of ozone, which can irritate the lungs of your babies.

AeraMax Baby DB5 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, air purifiers must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criterion to determine if this air purifier is good or not.

The AeraMax Baby DB5 has a power consumption of 37 to 51 watts. Sadly, this isn’t an Energy Star air purifier, so you should turn the Smart Sensor on to keep the air purifier on the lowest speed, reducing the energy consumption efficiently.

If you buy an AeraMax Baby DB5, you should expect to pay around $13 to $18 per year for about 8 hours of use per day.

AeraMax Baby DB5 Additional Features

The AeraMax Baby DB5 is one of the few devices packing the Smart Sensor, named AeraSmart, inside. Built with the highly accurate technology of Fellowes, the AeraMax Baby DB5 can sense even the slightest change in the air quality index and respond by changing fan speed automatically to match the environment’s needs.

The air purifier also has a unique Aera+ Mode to maximize the fan speed and make it clean the room faster.

Finally, we still have an LED indicator for filter replacement to remind you when to change the air filter.
