AeraMax is the air purifier product from Fellowes, a long-established American family business. As the top manufacturer of important office accessories, this company brings us its lineup of commercial air purifiers, which are meant for the workplace environment. The AeraMax Professional AM 2 is the smallest device in this commercial lineup, and we will help you learn everything about it in our today AeraMax Professional AM 2 Review.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 Price

Finally, we come to the commercial lineup of AeraMax, one thing that many people can’t afford to pay for. It is reasonable because the commercial lineup is for office use, where the air purifier can save a lot of people.

The most affordable AeraMax commercial air purifier device is, well, not so much. The official price of AeraMax Professional AM 2 is $945, which is nearly four times the price of the basic personal flagship,

It is still a solid commercial air purifier, but only for very small, shared spaces such as restrooms, exam rooms, and offices. If you pay so much for a device, maybe the Blueair Pro L and/or IQAir HealthPro Plus are more appropriate to use. And don’t forget the Austin Air HealthMate Plus or AllerAir 5000 on the market, as these are the perfect industry air purifiers for large spaces.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 Design and Size

Even for a commercial air purifier, the AeraMax Professional AM 2 borrows most of its design concepts from the personal lineup. If not for the price, we can consider the device as one personal AeraMax air purifier.

It has a portable size, with only 22.5 inches in height and 14 inches in width. The AeraMax Professional AM 2 is especially slim, with only 4 inches of depth, and it can be mounted on a wall or put in a floor stand.

The air purifier has a stainless steel color for the front plate, which covers the whole air grill. You can find an easy-access panel latch to help open the front cover. It still uses the simple bottom-to-top airflow system concept to distribute the clean air in your room.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 uses a capacitive touch control panel. It is more durable and beautiful to use than low-end personal devices.

This air purifier weighs 10.6 lbs, and if you need to add mobility for the AeraMax Professional AM 2, make sure to use the floor stand instead of the wall mount.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 Filters

As a small commercial air purifier, the AeraMax Professional AM 2 gives you a simple Hybrid air filter, which is a simple 4-stage air cleaning system as below.

  1. Activated Carbon Filter – AeraMax Professional AM 2 uses an Activated Carbon filter to act as a pre-filter and can capture both large particles and household odors, pet odors, cooking odors, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
  2. True HEPA filter – Next, all airborne contaminants must rest in the True HEPA filter of this air purifier, which has a high efficiency of trapping 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, ragweed, and other allergens, viruses, germs, dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander.
  3. AeraSafe Antimicrobial Treatment – Its True HEPA filter’s built-in protection prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mildew, and fungi.
  4. PlasmaTrue Technology – This is one kind of ionizer that creates an ionized field to safely remove airborne pollutants. Can be turned on or off.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 gives you three different options for the main filter. The most popular option is the Hybrid air filter, which combines both Activated Carbon and HEPA filters into one 1.75-inch air filter to capture ultra-fine pollutants and adsorb odors and chemicals. Select only the carbon filter if you require an air purifier to trap cigarette smoke.

In addition, you can use a 1.75-inch True HEPA filter instead, to prolong the filter life from 1 year to 2 years, as well as increase the overall efficiency. If you worry about the odor/VOC adsorption, you can buy the add-on carbon booster sets, to aid the thicker True HEPA filter in all air cleaning tasks.

In a 200-square-foot room, I tested both the AeraMax Professional AM 2 and AeraMax Professional 3, in a room of 200 square feet. I also used the IQAir HealthPro Plus and Aeris aair 3-in-1 Pro for comparison, meaning I have high regard for the AeraMax company and wanted to compare it against the flagships of well-known Swiss brands. The result, AeraMax Professional AM 2 had high efficiency, trapping 99.93% airborne pollutants down to 0.3 microns in size after just 1 hour. The higher-end model, AeraMax Professional 3 can reach the perfect efficiency of 99.99%.

If you want to improve the efficiency of AeraMax Professional AM 2, you should use it in a much smaller room, maybe just 100 square feet. The result for that test should be 99.97% for trapping pollutants as small as 0.3 microns.

The hybrid air filter of the AeraMax Professional AM 2 needs to be replaced after 1 year of 24/7 use. At the time of this writing, we can’t find a deal for the filter replacement, so you should count it as a hindrance to buying the commercial air purifier from Fellowes.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 Room Coverage

AeraMax Professional AM 2 is only suggested for use in small shared spaces such as restrooms, exam rooms, and offices. The manufacturer recommends using the device for 100 to 300 square feet.

The ACH of AeraMax Professional AM 2 is 5X. This is the highest ACH rating of an AeraMax air purifier, meaning it can clean your room five times per hour.

The CADR of AeraMax Professional AM 2 is 95 Dust/ 82 Smoke/ 102 Pollen (cfm). On lowest speed, the fan power is just 35 cfm, which is really low for an air purifier that costs you $945. This is the top reason to buy other products instead of the AeraMax Professional AM 2.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 Sound

The AeraMax Professional AM 2 uses a single encased brushless DC motor, which is designed for low noise. However, even with such low fan power, its noise level is only 45 decibels (dB) on the lowest speed. It’s a shame for a Fellowes air purifier because the AeraMax 300 and AeraMax 200 are only 35 decibels for a much higher fan power.

On its highest speed, the AeraMax Professional AM 2 is truly noisy. I’ve measured the noise level to be as high as 64 decibels, which is even higher than a public restaurant. Actually, the device is for office environments, and it needs to be quiet to not distract people.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifiers must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criterion to review if this air purifier is good or not.

The encased brushless DC motor isn’t only designed for low noise; it can also maintain long-term continuous use at low power consumption. For our AeraMax Professional AM 2, the rated power can be as low as 5 watts at the lowest speed. The highest power consumption would be 55 watts.

If you use the AeraMax Professional AM 2 for 8 hours per day, you need to pay $0.2 to $20 annually, which is even better than the personal AeraMax 300.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 Additional Features

Because the AeraMax Professional AM 2 is designed to be wall-mounted, the auto mode is necessary. Fellowes calls their Smart Sensor as Patented EnviroSmart technology, which is a high-end sensor to detect the changes of airborne pollutants, and respond with the most proper fan power.

If you want to manually control the air purifier, simply switch to the manual mode and choose from 5 different fan speeds. You can know the current fan speed based on the number of tick marks illuminated around the Auto Mode icon.

AeraMax Professional AM 2 has two different LED indicators for Carbon and HEPA filters replacement. For the hybrid filter, both indicators will be lit.

Our verdict

The AeraMax Professional AM 2 is a commercial air purifier, so it’s reasonable for it to be expensive. However, it is quite overpriced, since it doesn’t have enough fan power to match the performance of the high-end flagships like IQAir HealthPro Plus or Austin Air HealthMate Plus.
