AeraMax has always been the top air purifying product of Fellowes, an American business since 1917. As the newest affordable air purifier from this company, do you continue to have a love affair with this AeraMax AM50? Let’s find out, in our today AeraMax AM50 Review.
Other AeraMax’s Air Purifier Reviews:
AeraMax AM50 Price
Despite the onslaught of affordable air purifiers made by brands from China and beyond, AeraMax is a trusted name with cheap but high-quality personal air purifiers. The AeraMax 100 and AeraMax 200 are once the most competitive air purifiers, with an affordable but accurate air sensor.
This time, the American manufacturer has introduced the new affordable product, in the name of AeraMax AM50. Without the signature smart sensor – AeraSmart system, the cost of making an AeraMax AM50 will be reduced. As a result, we have a cheaper device.
AeraMax AM50 is sold with the price tag of $99, but it isn’t featured anywhere on AeraMax or Fellowes websites. To get this air purifier, you must follow our below deal.
Considering AeraMax with a fair amount of goodwill thanks to its excellent dealer and service networks, AeraMax AM50 needs to be taken seriously. However, it competes directly against the Levoit Core 300 and Pure Enrichment PureZone, which are the top-selling products on Amazon. Without any advantages in air filtration technology, do you buy the AeraMax AM50 over these handy air purifiers?

AeraMax AM50 Design and Size
AeraMax AM50 isn’t an innovation from design perspective, which isn’t impressive like many devices with cylindrical shape like Levoit Vista 200, Partu BS-08 or Blue Pure 411. This is a console air purifier with compact size, only 14.4 inches in height and 12 inches in width, making it a perfect air purifier to put on floor standing or counter top.
It isn’t a good-looking air purifier, but the AeraMax AM50 handles the basics very well. It has good base to stand firm on the ground, with clean and white design to easily match your decoration.
The AeraMax AM50 doesn’t stray too far from the basic design principles of affordable console air purifier. The all-plastic build is utilitarian at best, but the company seems to be going for overall robustness than a flashy design. This air purifier has a common bottom-to-top air flow system concept, with double air intake from the front and the side.
However, you shouldn’t expect any new wise design on the air intake. The air grills are large, so the air purifier doesn’t need much fan power to draw in the polluted air. Also, the air outlet is made with large grills, for the same explanation.
AeraMax AM50 has simple touch control on top, near the air outlet. Behind the control panel is a handle so you can lift the device easily. Quite good placement of things in this AeraMax AM50.
AeraMax AM50 weighs only 9.7 lbs, which is a bit heavier than the AeraMax 100. Perhaps, the new air purifier isn’t the best air purifier for bedroom like its brother is.

AeraMax AM50 Filters
As the most affordable air purifier in AeraMax family, the AeraMax AM50 doesn’t have the signature PlasmaTrue technology. Instead, it uses a basic 2-stage air cleaning system as below.
- Pre-filter – AeraMax AM50 uses an Activated Carbon Filter as the pre-filter, to both remove odors and capture large airborne particulates. This is just a simple carbon sheet filter, and you should replace it every 3 months to keep your air purifier running at peak performance.
- True HEPA filter – Next, all airborne contaminants must rest in the True HEPA filter of this air purifier, with a high efficiency of trapping 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns like pollen, ragweed and other allergens, viruses, germs, dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander.
AeraMax AM50 is just a simple air purifier with only 2 stages of air filtration. To test its performance, I put the device in a room of only 100 square feet, and let it run for 1 hour. I also tested it against the Levoit LV-H132, TruSens Z-1000 and GermGuardian AC4200, to help you compare all air purifiers within the same price range.
Turn out, the AeraMax AM50 is quite good, with similar performance as the Levoit LV-H132, up to 99.5% efficiency of removing any particles down to 0.3 microns. It is quite good for personal use, but is nowhere near the performance of the AeraMax 100 or Levoit Core 300.
The AeraMax AM50 needs to replace the True HEPA filter every 6 months, with a cost as high as a GermGuardian device.

AeraMax AM50 Room Coverage
AeraMax AM50 is just a low-range air purifier from AeraMax, and the manufacturer only suggests to use the device in a room of 100 to 200 square feet.
The ACH of AeraMax AM50 is just 3X. The air purifier can remove air pollutants 3 times per hour.
The CADR of AeraMax AM50 is 50 cfm in general. This is the lowest CADR rating in AeraMax family, which can reduce the overall power of an air purifier with only 2 layers of filtration.

AeraMax AM50 Sound
Good thing, an air purifier with low fan power is definitely the one with quiet operation. That said, the AeraMax AM50 is recommended to use in bedroom, as the lowest noise level is only 30 decibels (db), which is just like the whisper.

AeraMax AM50 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
AeraMax doesn’t give any information about the power consumption of this AeraMax AM50, but after several tests, I believe the rated power is about 40 watts.
If you use the AeraMax AM50 for 8 hours per day, you need to pay $15 annually.

AeraMax AM50 Additional Features
One reason to love AeraMax air purifiers, because even for low-range personal devices, they bring the most progressive additional features to the users. The AeraMax AM50, despite of no AeraSmart feature, is capable of helping the user live easier, thanks to the convenient Timer setting. It can allow you set a time between 1 and 7 hours, which is convenient for bedtime setting.
This air purifier also has LED indicator for filter replacement, so you don’t need to remind the date to change filters manually. Very convenient!
AeraMax AM50 Customer Service
Fellowes is a long-history brand in the U.S, and one of the most reasons for their popularity is the great customer service. You can expect the full support from Monday to Friday, via phone at 800-955-0959 or via live chat in their FAQ page.
They don’t provide Free Shipping, but the ship will only be within one to two business days of being placed. You can return or exchange your air purifier within 14 days of receipt. Orders may be subject to a 20% restocking fee and all shipping and handling charges are the responsibility of the customer. If you discover what you believe is a product defect, you need to contact the support within 48 hours of delivery. Fellowes will investigate the claim and notify the freight company of the damage, then they will process the the replacement if possible.
About the warranty, all AeraMax air purifiers are covered by a 3-year warranty. It is enough for you to trust in the name of AeraMax.
AeraMax AM50 is a good air purifier to get for less than $100, but only when you can’t get a deal for the AeraMax 100. Low fan power and decent performance can’t help this air purifier win in the competition on low-range market, obviously.
It is discontinued, though.
An overall simple and decent air purifier from AeraMax, nothing more.
