The Bionaire BAP536UV-U (or the Bionaire Permanent mini tower air purifier) is the quietly stylish, power-centered tower workhorse. It is also the innovative design of only Bionaire, which is not covered by The Holmes Group. So today, we will check if this air purifier is really good in the Bionaire BAP536UV-U Review.
Update: Bionaire has launched the Bionaire BAP535UV-U recently, a richer-feature upgrade of our today Bionaire BAP536UV-U.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:

- Good customer service
- No True HEPA filter
- Quite noisy
As a subsidiary of The Holmes Group, Bionaire is now a brand mainly for Canada. Their products mostly resemble the Holmes air purifiers, but they still have two good tower air purifiers of their own. One of them is the Bionaire BAP536UV-U, the signature product of this company. Back to our Bionaire BAP536UV-U Review, we are happy to help you know about the best seller of Bionaire.
Other Bionaire’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Bionaire BAP536UV-U Price
The first modern device of the Bionaire family, the Bionaire BAP536UV-U, certainly won’t qualify as the company’s most advanced to date, with no oscillation or Nightlight setting like in the Bionaire BAP535UV-U.
It does however introduce the combination of both ionizer and UV-C light filter to improve the performance of the Permanent HEPA-type filter. It is necessary to have these additional filters, because it seems Bionaire is still loyal with the old HEPA-type filter. Of course, the parent company – Holmes, has brought True HEPA filter into action, but the Filter Reminder feature won’t work well with this type of HEPA filter.
This trade-off is not a problem with people who love budget air purifier. The Bionaire BAP536UV-U price is just as low as $99, which is $10 higher than the Bionaire BAP825WO-NU or Bionaire BAP600-U. After the forgettable arrival of Bionaire BAP1700-U, this Bionaire BAP536UV-U is what you really need from this brand.
You may ask me, with $99 you can purchase things like the AeraMax 100, PureZone or GermGuardian AC4825, so why you should buy the Bionaire BAP536UV-U? Good question, these air purifiers come up with a nice True HEPA filter, resulting in better performance. However, it will cost you more in the long-term run for annual filter cost, and can you afford that much?
The Bionaire BAP536UV-U is also the air purifier with best fan power of this company, which can be triple the CADR rating of the most popular devices in this price range like Levoit Vista 200 or Blue Pure 411. The only air purifier you can buy to beat the fan power of our today unit is the VEVA 8000 Elite Pro.

Bionaire BAP536UV-U Design and Size
The air purifier itself is a stylish black tower air purifier. It reminds me of the popular design from big brands like Honeywell or Whirlpool, in the form of Honeywell AirGenius 4 or Whirlpool WPT80. Now, you will get a nearly similar tower air purifier with just around half the cost of these aforementioned ones.
And clearly, it is nothing like the predecessor, which was also the popular tower air purifier of this family – the Holmes HAP716-NU. The Bionaire BAP536UV-U comes in a slick gloss black with the diagonal top control panel. The air outlet grill is made larger, which is definitely for the oscillation feature, but yes, you won’t have it in this air purifier.
Okay, so the most appealing part of this Bionaire is the top control panel. It is neat with less functional buttons, and has good finish. I have the feeling of a more premium device rather than an only $99 air purifier.
For the size, Bioniare BAP536UV-U is really tall, as it is 29 inches in height. It weighs 14 lbs, and you can easily move it around your home, especially with a convenient handle to use.

Bionaire BAP536UV-U Filters
To decide the performance of one air purifier, you will need to know about the quantity and quality of its air filters, as well as the air filter types are used. The Bionaire BAP536UV-U is the first of the family to use an interesting 3-stage air cleaning system.
- HEPA-type filter – It is not a True HEPA filter, and the quality is much inferior. But the air filter from Bionaire BAP536UV-U is said to clean 99% of any particles down to 2 microns in size.
- Ionizer – Emits negative ions bind with airborne smoke, dust and pollen to form larger particles that are more easily captured, which complies the standard safety of CARB completely.
- UV-C Light – With an UV-C light bulb, Bionaire BAP536UV-U can reduce germs, viruses, bacteria, mold and fungi.
With an increase of additional air filter, the Bionaire BAP536UV-U shows its real power against any types of airborne impurities. I tested this air purifier in the same conditions as other Bionaire devices, in the room of 150 square feet and 1 hour. As the result, the Bionaire BAP535UV-U can reach an amazing score – 93% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns. Actually, this air purifier is the best HEPA-type air purifier in this price range at the moment.
You can use the air filter HAPF30AT HEPA-type filter in this Bionaire BAP536UV-U, which costs you $17 for 6 months of use. I believe that the True HEPA HAPF300APD is also suitable for this air purifier, but it will cost you $44 for a pack of two air filters. However, everything has its own price, and the True HEPA filter is necessary for anyone who need a real deal for their allergies or asthma.

Bionaire BAP536UV-U Room Coverage
With so much fan power, the Bionaire BAP536UV-U is certainly suggested for medium rooms, and in this case, the manufacturer offers a room size of 236 square feet for this air purifier.
The ACH of Bionaire BAP536UV-U is 4X. Another air purifier to clean your room every 15 minutes.
The CADR of Bionaire BAP536UV-U is 153 Dust/ 152 Smoke/ 174 Pollen (cfm). This is currently the best fan power among Bionaire air purifiers.

Bionaire BAP536UV-U Sound
Again, there is one downside for the air purifier with so much fan power, especially the old classic air purifier. One of the top disadvantages is the noise level. This Bionaire BAP536UV-U is really, really noisy when running at the highest setting, and the noise level can reach 60 decibels (db). If you can’t imagine how noisy it is, you can think of the noise level of public restaurant or office, which is something you can’t enjoy when sleeping with.
Moreover, like many Holmes and Bionaire devices, the Bionaire BAP536UV-U will have a crackling noise for the ionizer. This problem is inevitable even on lowest speed, and I suggest you to turn off the ionizer function when you don’t really need it.

Bionaire BAP536UV-U Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.
Luckily, the Bionaire BAP536UV-U doesn’t consume too much energy, and for an air purifier with the highest fan power, it is truly a selling point. Through constant measurement, I believe the power consumption of Bionaire BAP536UV-U is only 60 watts, which is not low, but not high, either.
For running the Bionaire BAP536UV-U 8 hours per day, you need to pay for $22 each year.

Bionaire BAP536UV-U Additional Features
A pity that the Bionaire BAP536UV-U doesn’t have the great pace for additional features like in the previous Bionaire BAP1700-U. Yes, you don’t have the air sensor, as well as the timer.
If you want the fancy additional features, you must go for the Bionaire BAP535UV-U, which costs you another $40. Back to our today unit, there is nothing to explore, you only have two buttons to turn on the ionizer and UV light features. Other than that, you have nothing, not even the LED indicator for filter cleaning.
Bionaire BAP536UV-U Customer Service
The Bionaire is one major subsidiary under the name of The Holmes Group, but the customer service is not as good as the main brand. Now, the Bionaire is owned by Sunbeam Products Inc, which was itself acquired by Jarden Corporation.
So, for most parts, the way to contact customer service of Bionaire is similar to Holmes, either by filling in the information at their Contact page, or calling them via phone at 800-253-2764.
They have good delivery option, with standard shipping rate to be from $6 to $40, depending on the order amount. At the time of writing, they also provide a Free Shipping for any orders over $50. There is a return policy for the Bionaire air purifiers, just like Holmes air purifiers, as you can return your item within 30 days of receipt for an exchange or refund of the purchase price, for any reason.
Most importantly, all Bionaire air purifiers are warranted with 5-year warranty, which is the best offer for a low-range lineup.
I have positive review for the Bionaire BAP536UV-U, mostly because of its sleek design and premium black color option. It stores a great fan power, but without a proper True HEPA filter, the efficiency is still a lot lower than the real deal. One more thing, it seems Bionaire doesn’t care to develop and upgrade their air purifiers anymore, which is a sign for you to say “no” to an air purifier brand.
- Cleaning Power
- Power Consumption
It is beautiful, but it is still not a good air purifier.
