Holmes has been in the world of air purifier of the United States for more than 35 years, under the name of The Holmes Group. Now, being acquired by the Jarden Corporation, this brand has a chance to improve their air purifiers to a next level. As one of the most favorite air purifiers of this company, what would you expect from the Holmes HAP716-NU? Let’s find out in this Holmes HAP716-NU Review.
Other Holmes’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Holmes HAP716-NU Price
There’s no ambiguity with the latest addition to Holmes tower air purifier range. Both the Holmes HAP716-NU and Holmes HAP706-NU keep the same design from the previous Holmes HAP412BNS-NU, only change some parts for the outside beauty.
The Holmes HAP716-NU is the taller version of the familiar HAP706-NU, and of course, it is more powerful, and more expensive than its inferior brother. The price of this Holmes HAP716-NU is $89, which is an increase of 40% in price of the previous Holmes HAP706-NU. Do you think that you need such expansion in the price?
However, we must all admit that $89 for a True HEPA air purifier is too cheap in modern days. And yes, you can find good True HEPA air purifiers for such cost, like the Levoit Vista 200, GermGuardian AC4825 or AeraMax 100 are the best options.

Holmes HAP716-NU Design and Size
Like I said earlier, the Holmes HAP716-NU is in fact the taller version of the Holmes HAP706-NU, which is again, the updated version of the old Holmes HAP412BNS-NU. We could easily spot many similarity in design concept, for example, the structure of the internals, the arrangement of air vents to make classic back-to-front air flow system concept for tower air purifier.
But there is also the biggest change, the size. Holmes HAP716-NU is 28 inches in height, while the HAP706-NU is only 14 inches, which results in doubling the shape of this air purifier. The increase in size means the increase in filter media, so the Holmes HAP716-NU is supposed to clean better than its predecessors in the same conditions.
There’s not much to talk about the top of this air purifier, because it is just 2 manual switches to do the task. Ease-of-use is always the advantage of Holmes air purifiers.
The Holmes HAP716-NU weighs 13 lbs, and you still can move it around your home without any troubles. One more thing, you can look for the Bionaire BAP825WO-NU, a same version of this Holmes HAP716-NU, but without True HEPA filter at first. The Bionaire device is more popular in Canada, rather than United States (for Canadian readers).

Holmes HAP716-NU Filters
To decide the performance of one air purifier, you will need to know about the quantity and quality of its air filters, as well as the air filter types are used. The Holmes HAP716-NU uses the similar 2-stage air cleaning system from tower air purifier devices.
- True HEPA filter – A True HEPA Filter can reduce 99.97% of down to 0.3 microns all contaminant particles like dust, dust mites, pollen, pet dander or even mold spores.
- Ionizer – The technology of ionizing air purification from Holmes, which complies the standard safety of CARB completely.
It’s just the common air filtration system from the old tower HEPA-type air purifiers, but the Holmes HAP716-NU makes use of the real True HEPA filter, and this is the best air filter from this company. The efficiency, as you can see from the chart below, this Holmes HAP716-NU is the best to trap 99.5% any particles down to 0.3 microns in 1 hour. This performance is a lot better than the HEPA-type air purifiers, like Holmes HAP424-NU or Holmes HAP9424B-NU.
Like I said earlier, the Holmes HAP716-NU uses the same air filter as the Holmes HAP412BNS-NU. You should replace the air filter after 6 months of use, for optimal performance.

The CADR of Holmes HAP716-NU is 80 cfm in general.

Holmes HAP716-NU Sound
Holmes HAP716-NU is bigger, and for an air purifier with more powerful fan, we can’t expect the good quiet operation like the previous Holmes HAP706-NU.
So to say, the noise level of this air purifier at the highest setting is about 55 decibels (db). It is not too high, though it is audible and you can’t completely ignore the sound. I guess you should put the air purifier at least 100 feet from you to avoid the loud noise operation, especially when you run it on highest speed.

Holmes HAP716-NU Additional Features
The Holmes HAP716-NU is a standard tower air purifier of this company, and you shouldn’t expect much about the additional features from an old brand. To be precise, there is nothing to use in this air purifier, aside from a staple filter life indicator. Maybe it is the end of the Holmes air purifiers, unless they can release some devices that can keep up with the modern life.
Holmes HAP716-NU Customer Service
Even being acquired for more than 10 years, the Holmes products are still one of the most popular electric appliances today. Then the reason can only be their impressive customer service. If you need to contact them, you can easily do so by filling in the information at their Contact page, or calling them via phone at 800-546-5637.
Once you make an order, you will get your Holmes air purifier with a promotion of Free Shipping over $50. However, the promotion is only applied at the time of writing, so if you can’t find the Free Shipping option, you should choose to buy from Amazon. The most wonderful thing is, after your purchase, or any reason you are not completely satisfied with the Holmes air purifier, you can return your item within 30 days of receipt for an exchange or refund of the purchase price. Great, isn’t it?
And don’t worry about your air purifier, it will be backed up by a great 5-year warranty from The Holmes Group. This is also the best warranty for an air purifier brand that only targets low-range segment.
We don’t use the Holmes HAP716-NU like we did in the past, because it is just a so-so air purifier without necessary things to make it stand out of the crowd. To be fair, the Holmes HAP9726B-NU and Holmes HAP8650B-NU are much better upgrades to choose.

Still not a great tower air purifier, right?
