As an Amazon’s Choice of this brand, the Bionaire BAP1412-U is clearly one of the best options to buy. Of course, it is just another version of the old Holmes HAP706-NU, but the espresso color seems to be more favorable. In our today Bionaire BAP1412-U Review, we will have a look at the ace of one air purifier brand, though it doesn’t have a True HEPA filter.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- Mini and sleek design
- Good customer service
- No True HEPA filter
- PERMAtech isn’t permanent
As a subsidiary of The Holmes Group, Bionaire is now a brand mainly for Canada. Their products mostly resemble the Holmes air purifiers, but they still have two good tower air purifiers of their own. We can consider the Bionaire BAP1412D-U as a more appealing version of the old Holmes HAP412BNS-NU, but is it worth the higher price? Let’s check the Bionaire BAP1412-U Review to know the answer.
Other Bionaire’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Bionaire BAP1412-U Price
So to say, with $38 more expensive than the old air purifier, should you buy the Bionaire BAP1412-U instead, just only for a new hat. Yes, the Bionaire BAP1412-U price is $87, and I can’t believe the fact that it is even more expensive than a real True HEPA air purifier like the Holmes HAP706-NU.
Actually, all Bionaire air purifiers come with a lot more expensive price tag than the Holmes counterparts. Problem is, the Holmes air purifiers are still available in stock, and it is reasonable to question why you should need the Bionaire? Honestly, I don’t know, and I personally choose the Holmes air purifiers over every time.
We can choose the modern air purifiers in this price range, too, like the Levoit Vista 200, AeraMax 100 or VEVA 8000 Elite Pro. They provide a good to better fan power than the Bionaire BAP1412-U, as well as fancy additional features and a certified True HEPA filter. Okay, Bionaire BAP1412-U may be an Amazon’s Choice, but it doesn’t mean you should buy it at the moment.

Bionaire BAP1412-U Design and Size
Like many Bionaire air purifiers, the Bionaire BAP1412-U is easily mistaken to be one of Holmes air purifiers, and in this case, the Holmes HAP706-NU. If not for the espresso color and the logo of Bionaire, I don’t know how to tell one from another.
So, you will not be surprised to see the design of the mini tower Bionaire BAP1412-U, only it is taller than the Holmes counterpart. The height of this air purifier is 17 inches, which is still a lot smaller than the Bionaire BAP825WO-NU, and I find it more difficult to use it on a desk just like in the case of the Holmes HAP706-NU. Sometimes, bigger doesn’t mean better, right?
Apart from the size, the Bionaire BAP1412-U uses the same back-to-front air flow system concept, with perforated holes on the air intake grill. If you follow our website since the beginning, you will know the perforated air vent is better to help capture the large objects of pollutants like hair or fur.
On top of this air purifier, there are still two manual switches to change the settings, one for fan speeds and one for ionizer function.
The Bionaire BAP1412-U weighs only 7 lbs, and it is the same weight of the Holmes HAP412BNS-NU, thanks to the similarity in size.

Bionaire BAP1412-U Filters
To decide the performance of one air purifier, you will need to know about the quantity and quality of its air filters, as well as the air filter types are used. The Bionaire BAP1412-U uses the similar 2-stage air cleaning system from tower air purifier devices.
- HEPA-type filter – It is not a True HEPA filter, and the quality is much inferior. But the air filter from Bionaire BAP1412-U is said to clean 99% of any particles down to 2 microns in size.
- Ionizer – Emits negative ions bind with airborne smoke, dust and pollen to form larger particles that are more easily captured, which complies the standard safety of CARB completely.
Actually, the Bionaire BAP1412-U is the Holmes HAP412BNS-NU with a new coat, and I believe the efficiency will be much likely the same. In a room of 100 square feet, I tested all Bionaire air purifiers, and the Bionaire BAP1412-U was the least effective, as its performance was only 75% for any particles down to 0.3 microns.
You can use the air filter HAPF30AT HEPA-type filter in this Bionaire BAP1412-U, which costs you $17 for 6 months of use. And the new True HEPA HAPF300APD will be also suitable for this air purifier, but it will cost you $44 for a pack of two air filters.

Bionaire BAP1412-U Room Coverage
We have experienced too many Holmes and Bionaire air purifiers at the moment, and it is easy to know the suggested room size of the Bionaire BAP1412-U. Its capability should be only 80 square feet.
The ACH of Bionaire BAP1412-U is 4X. Another air purifier to clean your room every 15 minutes.
The CADR of Bionaire BAP1412-U is 50 Dust/ 52 Smoke/ 50 Pollen (cfm).

Bionaire BAP1412-U Sound
We can think of this air purifier as the compact version of the Bionaire BAP825WO-NU, and with less fan power, normally we will have an air purifier with better quiet operation.
That being said, the Bionaire BAP1412-U has the lowest noise level of only 40 decibels (db). This is just the noise level of the library, and you can hardly hear anything from the device when it is running.
If you want to use this compact air purifier in the quiet places, it is highly recommended.

Bionaire BAP1412-U Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.
For a mini tower air purifier, the power consumption of Bionaire BAP1412-U is only 43 watts, and you can find the desktop air purifiers with same power consumption like Holmes HAP242-NUC or Holmes HAP9240-NWU. It is okay, but it is clearly not the best.
For running the Bionaire BAP1412-U 8 hours per day, you need to pay for $15 each year.

Bionaire BAP1412-U Additional Features
The Bionaire BAP1412-U is a standard tower air purifier of this company, and you shouldn’t expect much about the additional features from an old brand. To be precise, there is nothing to use in this air purifier, aside from a staple filter life indicator.
We hope that Bionaire can have an amazing air purifier, not just a copycat of the old Holmes air purifiers.
Bionaire BAP1412-U Customer Service
The Bionaire is one major subsidiary under the name of The Holmes Group, but the customer service is not as good as the main brand. Now, the Bionaire is owned by Sunbeam Products Inc, which was itself acquired by Jarden Corporation.
So, for most parts, the way to contact customer service of Bionaire is similar to Holmes, either by filling in the information at their Contact page, or calling them via phone at 800-253-2764.
They have good delivery option, with standard shipping rate to be from $6 to $40, depending on the order amount. At the time of writing, they also provide a Free Shipping for any orders over $50. There is a return policy for the Bionaire air purifiers, just like Holmes air purifiers, as you can return your item within 30 days of receipt for an exchange or refund of the purchase price, for any reason.
Most importantly, all Bionaire air purifiers are warranted with 5-year warranty, which is the best offer for a low-range lineup.
Okay, the Bionaire BAP1412-U is a good-to-use air purifier, but it doesn’t have anything better than the old Holmes HAP412BNS-NU or Holmes HAP706-NU, and charging more for nothing is completely unacceptable.
I still wonder why this air purifier is an Amazon’s Choice?
