The Bionaire BAP1700-U is removed from the Bionaire website, but it has a lot of potential than others that we still try to find a deal and bring one product to Breathe Quality headquarter to test for you. It is a new upgrade to the Bionaire BAP825WO-NU, with an unique air sensor. But even with so much worthy features, is this Bionaire BAP1700-U a good buy? We will find out in this Bionaire BAP1700-U Review.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.
- New additional features
- Good customer service
- No True HEPA filter
- Low performance
- Cheaper finish than previous models
- Inaccurate air sensor
As a subsidiary of The Holmes Group, Bionaire is now a brand mainly for Canada. Their products mostly resemble the Holmes air purifiers, but they still have two good tower air purifiers of their own. In this Bionaire BAP1700-U Review, we will understand why this company removed this air purifier completely from their website.
Other Bionaire’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Bionaire BAP1700-U Price
The first reason this Bionaire BAP1700-U is unavailable in Bionaire website is because of its price. All Bionaire air purifiers have the tradition to be a little bit overprice, if compared with the Holmes counterpart. But the Bionaire BAP1700-U, confident with its built-in air sensor, is ready for a higher price.
However, I still mark this air purifier as how Bionaire truly has taken care of the more serious air purifier users. The built-in air sensor is a necessary thing to automatically control the air purifier settings, and therefore give users a peace in mind.
But whatever it takes, the Bionaire BAP1700-U is just a HEPA-type air purifier, and charging $99 for a device like this is a little too much. It is $10 more expensive than the old Bionaire BAP825WO-NU – another discontinued air purifier.
In this price range, you can get the True HEPA air purifier with Smart Sensor, like AeraMax 100 or SilverOnyx. And I must admit, you can even get the True HEPA air purifier with better fan power like VEVA 8000 Elite Pro or GermGuardian AC5000, so what is the reason to buy this Bionaire BAP1700-U?

Bionaire BAP1700-U Design and Size
From the outside, the Bionaire BAP1700-U clearly takes inspiration from the previous Holmes HAP716-NU and Bionaire BAP825WO-NU. It stands 28 inches in height, and has perforated holes for the air intake grill. We have the same back-to-front air flow system concept, but with the bigger air intake, this air purifier is ready for a more powerful fan than the predecessor.
About the new dim gray color, it is widely used in the Holmes and Bionaire products, but personally I don’t like this color as the white option in Holmes HAP716-NU. Of course, it is my personal taste, and you’re welcomed to like this color option.
The top control panel is more complex than ever, with enough functional buttons for both the timer and Auto Mode. Again, the buttons are hard to press, and they feel a little bit cheap.
The Bionaire BAP1700-U weighs 15.6 lbs, which is heavier than common tower air purifiers of this company. But don’t worry, I bet most of us can lift it and move around home without any trouble.

Bionaire BAP1700-U Filters
To decide the performance of one air purifier, you will need to know about the quantity and quality of its air filters, as well as the air filter types are used. The Bionaire BAP1700-U uses the similar 2-stage air cleaning system from tower air purifier devices.
- HEPA-type filter – It is not a True HEPA filter, and the quality is much inferior. But the air filter from Bionaire BAP1700-U is said to clean 99% of any particles down to 2 microns in size.
- Ionizer – Emits negative ions bind with airborne smoke, dust and pollen to form larger particles that are more easily captured, which complies the standard safety of CARB completely.
With better fan power, we can expect the performance of this Bionaire BAP1700-U to be better than the previous Bionaire BAP825WO-NU. The result, as you can see in the below chart, Bionaire BAP1700-U finished my test with an efficiency of 80% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns.
You can use the air filter HAPF30AT HEPA-type filter in this Bionaire BAP1700-U, which costs you $17 for 6 months of use. I believe that the True HEPA HAPF300APD is also suitable for this air purifier, but it will cost you $44 for a pack of two air filters. However, everything has its own price, and the True HEPA filter is necessary for anyone who need a real deal for their allergies or asthma.

Bionaire BAP1700-U Room Coverage
The Bionaire BAP1700-U is a great tower air purifier to clean a room of 170 square feet.
The ACH of Bionaire BAP1700-U is 4X. Another air purifier to clean your room every 15 minutes.
The CADR of Bionaire BAP1700-U is 110 cfm in general.

Bionaire BAP1700-U Sound
Bionaire BAP1700-U is bigger, and for an air purifier with more powerful fan, we can’t expect the good quiet operation like the previous Bionaire BAP1412-U.
So to say, the noise level of this air purifier at the highest setting is about 55 decibels (db). It is not too high, though it is audible and you can’t completely ignore the sound. I guess you should put the air purifier at least 100 feet from you to avoid the loud noise operation, especially when you run it on highest speed.

Bionaire BAP1700-U Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.
As a tower air purifier, the Bionaire BAP1700-U has a power consumption of 90 watts. It is really high, and gives us another reason not to buy this air purifier.
For running the Bionaire BAP1700-U 8 hours per day, you need to pay for $32 each year.

Bionaire BAP1700-U Additional Features
This is where the Bionaire BAP1700-U should shine, but it is ruined completely because of the inaccurate built-in sensor. You can check the reviews of this air purifier on Amazon, and you will know that the Bionaire air sensor is the worst ever.
Other than that, Bionaire BAP1700-U has its own timer and LED indicator to remind you when to clean the permanent HEPA filter. The timer is available for 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours.
Bionaire BAP1700-U Customer Service
The Bionaire is one major subsidiary under the name of The Holmes Group, but the customer service is not as good as the main brand. Now, the Bionaire is owned by Sunbeam Products Inc, which was itself acquired by Jarden Corporation.
So, for most parts, the way to contact customer service of Bionaire is similar to Holmes, either by filling in the information at their Contact page, or calling them via phone at 800-253-2764.
They have good delivery option, with standard shipping rate to be from $6 to $40, depending on the order amount. At the time of writing, they also provide a Free Shipping for any orders over $50. There is a return policy for the Bionaire air purifiers, just like Holmes air purifiers, as you can return your item within 30 days of receipt for an exchange or refund of the purchase price, for any reason.
Most importantly, all Bionaire air purifiers are warranted with 5-year warranty, which is the best offer for a low-range lineup.
There are a lot of reasons to hold you from buying the Bionaire BAP1700-U, and even the good customer service is not enough to change your mind.
- Cleaning Power
- Power Consumption
Bionaire BAP1700-U may be the only air purifier with air sensor of this company, but it is not as precise as we hope.
