AeraMax Professional 3 Air Purifier: Trusted Review & Specs

This is the newer, bulkier third installment of the AeraMax commercial lineup, called AeraMax Professional 3. You can spend more money for the AeraMax Professional 3S with a floor stand, but I believe this AeraMax Professional 3 Review covers both commercial air purifier tests in real-world use.

In short, the AeraMax Professional 3 and any of its upgraded versions are not really keeping up with the price/performance that the AeraMax Professional 4 gives.

AeraMax Professional 3 Price

Right before the current flagship AeraMax Professional 4, both AeraMax Professional 3 and 3S are the recommended air purifiers for common areas such as waiting rooms, restrooms, and other large spaces with high concentrations of contaminants.

These air purifiers are also the first devices in the commercial line to feature a more industrial look, which is a bit different from the previous AeraMax Professional AM 2. You can still find the signature EnviroSmart and PlasmaTrue technologies in these air purifiers.

For the price, they are all high-end air purifiers with hefty price tags. The AeraMax Professional 3 starts at $1299, while the official price tag of the AeraMax Professional 3S is $1345.

If you are looking for a high-end air purifier that’s expensive, you can look for the IQAir GC MultiGas or Oransi Erik 650A as the perfect alternatives. The AllerAir 6000 and Airpura P600 are for more serious air cleaning, as they both have a deeper Activated Carbon filter.

AeraMax Professional 3 Design and Size

On the outside, the AeraMax Professional 3 appears to be a large water heater. However, it is just fit for “mid-sized” spaces, according to Fellowes.

The standard AeraMax Professional 3 is 19.5 inches in height and 21 inches in width, so even when you can mount it on a wall, the device feels gargantuan. For the 3S version, it is a bit taller, thanks to the floor stand.

AeraMax huge design for commercial air purifiers doesn’t need to change much to look really solid. It’s consistently the best size for a wall-mountable air purifier in the world, especially when the weight is 20.2 lbs. You really need to hang it up, right?

AeraMax Professional 3 runs the traditional bottom-to-top airflow system concept, with the huge air intake literally under the bottom. This air purifier also has an access panel to unlock the front cover.

We still have the capacitive touch control panel in this AeraMax Professional 3, which is more durable to use, and more beautiful to look at.

AeraMax Professional 3 Filters

The next-generation commercial air purifier from AeraMax uses the new 5-stage air cleaning system, with an independent pre-filter to boost the life of the core filters.

1. Pre-filter – AeraMax Professional 3 separates the pre-filter from the carbon filter so that the carbon filter can continue to function properly. The pre-filter can capture large particulates like dust and hair and needs to be replaced after 6 months.
2. Activated Carbon Filter – The carbon filter works independently to capture strong odors or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
3. True HEPA filter – Next, all airborne contaminants must rest in the True HEPA filter of this air purifier, which has a high efficiency of trapping 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, ragweed, and other allergens, viruses, germs, dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander.
4. AeraSafe Antimicrobial Treatment – Its True HEPA filter’s built-in protection prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mildew, and fungi.
5. PlasmaTrue Technology – This is one kind of ionizer that creates an ionized field to safely remove airborne pollutants. Can be turned on or off.

AeraMax Professional 3 also uses three different options for the main filter, whether it is a Hybrid air filter, a standalone Carbon filter or a standard combination. The filter is the most powerful defense of this American company, and they still put it in the AeraMax Professional 4.

Thanks to the new preliminary filter, AeraMax Professional 3 can work way better at adsorbing odors, smoke, and chemicals. The standalone carbon filter is nearly 2.5 inches thick, and it can last for up to 2 years.

PlasmaTrue technology is again available in this high-end air purifier. This ionizer feature is tested strictly for safety by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for ozone emissions.

In the previous test with the AeraMax Professional AM 2, the AeraMax Professional 3 obviously had higher efficiency, thanks to its advanced fan power. The score was 99.99% for a test in 200 square feet, which is the same as an IQAir HealthPro Plus.

The hybrid air filter needs to be changed after 1 year, and its cost is about $344.

AeraMax Professional 3 Room Coverage

AeraMax Professional 3 and 3S are made for medium-sized rooms, with areas from 300 to 700 square feet. The manufacturer suggests using this air purifier in public restrooms, exam areas, smaller lobby areas, and waiting rooms.

The ACH of AeraMax Professional 3 is 5X. This is the highest ACH rating of an AeraMax air purifier, meaning it can clean your room five times per hour.

The CADR of AeraMax Professional 3 is 220 cfm at its highest speed. The lowest fan power is as low as 80 cfm, making the device perfectly suited for medium-sized spaces.

AeraMax Professional 3 Sound

AeraMax Professional 3 introduces a high-end, encased brushless DC motor to reduce noise. Even for an air purifier with such high fan power, the noise level on the lowest speed is just 38 decibels (dB), which is a lot better than the AeraMax Professional AM 2.

However, the highest noise level reaches 67 decibels, and you can’t sleep with this device on its highest setting. Actually, the device is for office environments, and it needs to be quiet to not distract people.

AeraMax Professional 3 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifiers must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criterion to review if this air purifier is good or not.

With higher fan power, the AeraMax Professional 3 is still good at keeping the power consumption at just 5 watts on the lowest speed. However, if you run the device at its highest speed, you should expect the output power to be 100 watts.

If you use the AeraMax Professional 3 for 8 hours per day, you need to pay $0.2 to $36 annually.

AeraMax Professional 3 Additional Features

Because the AeraMax Professional 3 is designed to be wall-mounted, the Auto Mode is necessary. Fellowes calls their Smart Sensor as Patented EnviroSmart technology, which is a high-end sensor to detect the changes of airborne pollutants, and respond with the most proper fan power.

If you want to manually control the air purifier, simply switch to the manual mode and choose from 5 different fan speeds. You can know the current fan speed based on the number of tick marks illuminated around the Auto Mode icon.

AeraMax Professional 3 has two different LED indicators for Carbon and HEPA filter replacement. For the hybrid filter, both indicators will be lit. It features the new accessory indicator to show whether the access panel is open or closed.

Our verdict

It is simply a commercial air purifier for larger spaces than the AeraMax Professional AM 2. The AeraMax Professional 3 is not for everyone because it targets only the heads of offices. Personally, I would recommend the IQAir HealthPro Plus or Austin Air HealthMate Plus over this device, thanks to their superior performance and cheaper price tag.
