Medify Air has never followed the trend of adding a UV-C light to its traditional mechanical filtration system. However, that may be changing. With the Medify MA-40 UV, Medify Air is looking to build on its proven formula by offering a UV-C-equipped alternative to the popular Medify MA-40. Time for the latest Medify MA-40 UV review.

Medify Air was founded in 2017 and quickly became one of the most popular air purifier brands in the North American market, largely through its success on Amazon. More recently, the company has had several of its models tested and certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, a move that has further strengthened its credibility. Okay, time for the latest Medify MA-40 UV review.
Other Medify Air’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Medify MA-40 UV Price
Focusing in on the Medify MA-40 UV, it’s a large-room air purifier, first and foremost. This is the refinement of the former Medify MA-40, which is improved to the version 3.0 throughout the years. It adds the necessary UV-C light into the verified air filtration system, making it the best air purifier for molds.
With the UV-equipped model running the same $249 as the base MA-40, the Medify MA-40 UV is perhaps the better choice. In fact, it is often out of stock, so we recommend you to grab our deal and buy the Medify MA-40 UV right away.
Again, the Medify MA-40 UV faces the same competition as its brothers: mostly against the GermGuardian AC3200 Airsafe XL with the same role. You can find other big brands here like the Levoit Core 600S, Blue Pure 211i Max or Airmega Mighty 2, but none of these will have UV-C light filter. A clear advantage of the Medify MA-40 UV.

Medify MA-40 UV Design and Size
The design of the Medify MA-40 UV is essentially the same as the Medify MA-40, but with an added filtration stage on the inside. From the outside, you can’t distinguish two units.
At 15.6 lb net weight, the Medify MA-40 UV lines up closely with the standard MA-40’s console footprint, and it’s not a small unit – Medify’s own listing puts the tower at 22 inches tall by 9.9 inches wide by 10.9 inches deep.
There is a handle from the back of the Medify MA-40 UV, just like the original model. It runs the same back-to-front airflow system concept, so make sure you don’t place it against the wall, which restricts the airflow.
The control panel is simple, with the UV-light button merged with the old Child lock button.

Medify MA-40 UV Filters
We have the original Medify MA-40 to have all of these air filter types, and the Medify MA-40 UV extends with one more guard, for the total of 5-stage air cleaning system.
- Pre-filter – A layer of pre-filter covers the True HEPA filter, to prolong the life time of the core filter, by trapping the large objects of pollutants like fur, hair and large dust.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA filter (graded H13) captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
- Activated Carbon filter – Uses substantial carbon filter with carbon pellets to remove toxic odors and formaldehyde.
- Ionizer – Produces negative ions to charge particles and trap them inside the unit. Can be switched on/off.
- UV-C light – The function runs for 20 minutes before automatically turning off. Deals with mold, mildew and viruses inside the air purifier.
While the Medify MA-40 UV shares the same design as its brother, what’s inside of it is much different with the additional UV-C light. It’s switched on with a dedicated UV button on the touch panel, which lights an indicator and runs the lamp for a fixed 20-minute cycle before shutting off automatically – you can also press the button again mid-cycle to turn it off early.
Performance-wise, the Medify MA-40 UV is nearly the same as the more expensive Medify MA-50, which is also upgraded to version 3.0. It can capture 99.75% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, in just 1 hour.

The Medify MA-40 UV uses the same genuine MA-40 replacement filter, which Medify Air recommends replacing every 4-5 months. However, after extended testing at Breathe Quality, we adjusted its ranking because the filter can realistically last for around 8 months without affecting Medify Air’s warranty coverage.

Medify MA-40 UV Room Coverage
The Medify MA-40 UV follows the same pattern as the Medify MA-40, which is verified by the AHAM for 374 square feet, slightly better than its first version.
The ACH of the Medify MA-40 UV is 5X. However, if you’re planning to run the air purifier in its suggested room size of the manufacturer, the air changes per hour is only 1X.
The CADR of the Medify MA-40 UV is 287 Dust/ 241 Smoke/ 332 Pollen (cfm). It is a little better than the first version of the MA-40.

Medify MA-40 UV Sound
The upgraded fan power of the Medify MA-40 UV doesn’t have much impact on its noise level. In our testing, the lowest noise level remained at 30 decibels (dB). That’s not the quietest you’ll find on the market, but it’s understandable since the air purifier offers only four fan speeds. Medify Air clearly prioritized airflow over ultra-quiet operation.
On its highest speed, the noise level of the Medify MA-40 UV can reach 66 decibels, a little higher than the original Medify MA-40. It is noisier than other air purifier competitors.

Medify MA-40 UV Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
Unlike the newest version of the Medify MA-40, the Medify MA-40 UV isn’t an Energy Star air purifier with its rated power of 68 watts.
If you’re going to use the Medify MA-40 UV for at least 8 hours per day, you need to pay $29.8 annually.

Medify MA-40 UV Additional Features
It seems Medify Air has stepped away from the Wi-Fi race, with no sign of a smartphone app following the discontinuation of the Medify MA-Smart. So far, the company’s recent updates have focused on improving fan performance rather than adding smart features.
The Medify MA-40 UV still doesn’t have its own Smart Sensor. Instead, you need to choose between 4 fan speeds, with one being the Sleep mode to trim down the noise level to lowest.
Other than that, you still have a simple Timer, Child lock setting and a LED indicator for filter replacement. It looks like Medify Air is living in the past 10 years.

Our verdict
The Medify MA-40 is a better purchase than the Medify MA-40 for its additional UV-C light with no extra charge. However, the air purifier doesn’t have smart features, so its ranking is lower in Breathe Quality ranking list.
