As a big air purifier corporation in the world, Honeywell has released more than 30 specific air purifiers, with two main product lines: the HPA Model and the HFD Model. If the HPA model is typically powerful with a great true HEPA filter, as seen in the Honeywell HPA600B, the brand’s latest flagship, the HFD model emphasizes more on appearance. However, that doesn’t mean there is no “new” technology in this Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300. Well, let’s find out in our Honeywell AirGenius 3 Review.

Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 Price

Honeywell AirGenius 3 is a development of the Honeywell HFD-010, which is also a really old model. It is only available for backorder from the official Honeywell website for around $179, a significant discount from the official $240 price.

For its current price, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 is facing lots of potential opponents, both inside and outside of the Honeywell brand. The Honeywell HPA030B is a good option to replace the Honeywell AirGenius 3, also with a $50 price cut, while the Honeywell HPA200 is still a viable option for better CADR rating and fan power. If you look further, the best alternatives could be a GermGuardian CDAP4500BCA, with a better price and a good Wi-Fi connectivity function, or the Blueair Classic 203 Slim, a powerhouse with a great air filter from one of the best air purifier manufacturers in the world.

However, if you really want this Honeywell AirGenius 3, we will give you a rare deal to buy it. At the moment, this is the best deal you could get, with nearly half the official price tag.

Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 Design and Size

Honeywell has made all the right moves in some respects. When the trend of tower air purifier is increasing, thanks to Guardian Technologies with its series of tower air purifiers, Honeywell has answered with the series of HFD Models. Though the Honeywell HFD-120-Q was belittled by a cheap air grill and a hard-to-push button, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 isn’t. The color is painted as plain black or white, for attractive feelings.

Also, this Honeywell AirGenius 3 still has the same back-to-front airflow concept as other tower air purifiers. which means you will have a good-looking air outlet grill from the front and a huge air intake grill from the back. The only tower air purifier that comes with a different concept is the Honeywell HPA160, which has not been a big success for this brand.

As usual, on top of this Honeywell AirGenius 3, you will have a manual controller to change the fan speed or check the filter replacement indicator of your air purifier.

With 27 inches in height, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 is not a heavy air purifier, either. The weight is about 13 lbs. and is quite similar to other tower devices from this brand.

Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 Filters

Using the same air filter as the previous HFD-120-Q, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 features the unique ifD air filters (only from the HFD models of Honeywell) and a 2-stage air cleaning system as below.

1. Pre-filter – Not like the HPA models of Honeywell, like the HPA100, HPA200 or HPA300, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 only uses a normal pre-filter. This pre-filter can capture larger particles before they enter the ifD filter. Also, the pre-filter is washable and therefore permanent.
2. ifD filter – The Honeywell AirGenius 3 employs an innovative ifD filter to capture up to 99.9% of contaminant particles as small as 0.3 microns, such as pet dander, mold, viruses, bacteria, and pollen. This air filter adds an Activated Carbon filter to help deodorize the air and reduce odors.

Not like the typical True HEPA filter, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 makes use of the ifD filter, which stands for Intense Field Dielectric. This air filter is a breakthrough, permanent filtration method that is highly effective against all types of airborne particles that are larger than 0.3 microns. It works when a high-voltage source actively charges the filter and forces particles to be captured in the physical layer of filtration.

The performance of this Honeywell AirGenius 3 is especially better than its predecessors, like the Honeywell HFD-010 and Honeywell HFD-120-Q. Putting all three air purifiers in a room of 150 square feet for an hour, I saw the difference much easier. The Honeywell AirGenius 3 has a decent efficiency of 96%, while the HFD-120-Q is only 90% and the HFD-010 is 68%. If you can run this air purifier for like 8 hours per day, the efficiency can reach as high as 99.9% for any particles that are 0.3 microns and larger.

However, due to the core nature of this air filter, which is just an ionic air filter, it can produce trace amounts of ozone and therefore can irritate asthma or other breathing issues. If you have these breathing problems, you should not buy this air purifier, because the Honeywell AirGenius 3 doesn’t have any on/off buttons for the ionic feature.

The ifD filter, which is named HRF-K2, is one of the most affordable filters from Honeywell, with only a $17 price tag. That is reasonable because the filter is not a true HEPA filter with a complicated mechanism. Moreover, the HRF-K2 air filter is permanent because it is washable. If you are using Honeywell AirGenius 3, you can use the filter for the rest of your life without thinking about it.

Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 Room Coverage

Just like Guardian Technologies, the tower air purifiers of Honeywell are not good for their fan powers. Honeywell AirGenius 3 can only deliver clean air efficiently in a room of 225 square feet.

The ACH of Honeywell AirGenius 3 is 5x. The Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 can clean your room every 12 minutes.

The CADR of Honeywell AirGenius 3 is 150 Dust/ 146 Smoke/ 160 Pollen (cfm). Though the CADR rating is not as good as the HPA200, it is still better than the Honeywell HPA160 in the same price range. To clean a room of 225 square feet, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 is efficient.

Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 Sound

There is one advantage to not having a true HEPA filter in your air purifier: the silence of its fan. It’s really difficult for a good True HEPA air purifier to deliver a quiet noise level. Fortunately, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 (and other HFD models) is extremely quiet thanks to the IFD air filter.

With only 3 fan speeds, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 is a must-have air purifier in any quiet place, such as your office or bedroom.

Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, we need to run an air purifier for a long time to be efficient.

Honeywell is well-known for producing powerful air purifiers such as the Honeywell HPA300; however, this is not the case with the Honeywell AirGenius 3. That being said, the Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300’s maximum power consumption is only 38 watts, which is quite similar to the current best seller, the Levoit LV-H132. It complements the low energy consumption of your Honeywell AirGenius 3, which also receives the Energy Star rating for efficiency.

It could cost you up to $14 per year to use a Honeywell AirGenius 3 for 8 hours per day.

Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 Additional Features

The Honeywell AirGenius 3 is a vintage air purifier.You will have an oscillation function button, which is for moving the air forth and back. However, there are common functions, such as the timer or auto-dimmer setting, as featured in the Honeywell HPA models, like the HPA200 or HPA300. For these settings, you need to upgrade to the Honeywell HFD310 or HFD320 (which is the AirGenius 4 or 5).

As a typical air purifier, you will still have a LED indicator for filter replacement in the Honeywell AirGenius 3.

Honeywell AirGenius 3 HFD300 Customer Service

Honeywell is a market leader in air purifiers, but its customer service is not as friendly as that of competitors. You can reach customer service via the mailbox at the Honeywell Store at 407 N. Quentin Road, Palatine, Illinois. But I suggest you call 847-701-3038 for any support questions. Or you can email sales@honeywellstore.com for any problems you experience while on the site or after buying a product. Honeywell is available from Monday to Friday.

It doesn’t have free shipping like Rabbit Air or Alen, and you must notify customer service within one business day of any problems with a third-party shipping service like USPS or FedEx. Otherwise, it will not accept liability for any merchandise damage during transit. Also, the shipment can take up to 10 business days from the date that the order is shipped.

The hardest part is when you want to return one Honeywell air purifier, as you only have 30 days from the date you receive your item to process your return. If there is no transit damage or workmanship defects, you won’t receive the shipping charge (on both the original shipping charge and the return shipping charge) and will have to pay a 10–30% re-stocking fee.

Honeywell’s warranty policy is also among the longest in the industry, with up to 5 years of coverage.

Our verdict

Honeywell AirGenius 3 is not a smart choice for your home at the moment, especially when the GermGuardian CDAP4500BCA is offering better smart features for only $149. Also, the ifD air filter can emit ozone, so we don’t recommend this air purifier if you have asthma or other breathing conditions.
