It packs everything that you would need from a mid-range air purifier: high fan power, decent room coverage and a very, very good air filtration system.

When the Bissell MyAir is targeting pricing strategy, other models from Bissell, including of Bissell air400, ask you for the money of mid-range budget. Even though the Bissell air400 is an old model, if you look at the specs sheet, you can know it is still the most powerful air purifier of Bissell family.

The official price of Bissell air400 is $349, the same as the Bissell air320. You can also check our deal, for the price going as low as $279. Unlike the new air purifiers, the Bissell air400 packs with even 6 fan speeds (instead of 5 like its brothers) and an unique Timer setting.

While the Bissell air400 has an elegant design, it won’t necessarily turn heads. It’s definitely more premium than what is expected out of an air purifier in its price range, but it’s an air purifier that will disappear among all other air purifiers that look like it.

That’s why the company doesn’t linger on this design, and they changed it strongly into the Bissell air220 and Bissell air320 with classic-feeling and premium design concept.

At 27.2 inches in height and 18.9 inches in width, this Bissell air400 is huge, certainly containing a big fan inside. It has a rectangular shape with a titanium color. Honestly, I quite like the matte black color in this air purifier, as it gives a premium feeling of a all-metal device. But the overall body, Bissell gives their most popular air purifier a look of something much cheaper.

The focal point in this popular design could be air quality display on front of Bissell air400, both in digital and color-coded readings. Moving to the sides, you can see its air intake, for the common bottom-to-top air flow system concept. There is an air sensor beside the air intake, to help you monitor the air quality index.

The Bissell air400 is reliable, as it is certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for safe ozone emission, thanks to its use of only mechanical filters. Running the simple 3-stage air filtration system, the Bissell air400 is still the most powerful air purifier of the family.

1. Pre-filter – A pre-filter is used to capture the large objects of pollutants, like pet hair, fur and large dust. It is washable and permanent to use.
2. HEPA filter – With the pleated High Efficiency filter, the Bissell air400 can trap 99.7% of 0.3 microns particles or larger.
3. Activated Carbon Filter – Engineered with actual pieces of carbon, the honeycombed Activated Carbon filter can capture odor causing gases and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

Bissell air400 performs a lot better than both the new Bissell air220 and Bissell air320 in the same conditions, a room of 200 square feet and a duration of 1 hour. As you can see, the air purifier scored 99.9% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns, in just 1 hour. Such efficiency was even higher than the Vornado PCO300 and Oreck Air Response Large, not to mention the cheaper TruSens Z-2000. It’s the same performance as the Vornado AC550, however, which has a much cheaper price tag.

With bigger size than its brothers, the Bissell air400 requires a different set of air filters, but you still need to replace the filter once every 6 months. The new HEPA filter costs you just $25, which is not much expensive from the smaller air filters of air220 and air320 models.

Bissell air400 24791 Room Coverage

The Bissell air400 is recommended for medium to large rooms between 300 and 400 square feet, suggested by the manufacturer. However, it seems Bissell recently made some bold claims about the room coverage of their mid-range air purifiers, as the room coverage of Bissell air400 can reach 1200 square feet.

The ACH of Bissell air400 is 1X to 3X. If the air purifier is running in the standard room size of 400 square feet, it can clean the room every 20 minutes. But if you put the Bissell air400 in a room of 1200 square feet, it will clean only one time per hour.

The CADR of Bissell air400 is 307 Dust/ 279 Smoke/ 206 Pollen (cfm). The Pollen-free CADR rating of this Bissell air400 is surprisingly low, when compared with other CADR specs. However, you shouldn’t worry about the performance of this Bissell air400, as it certainly cover the suggested room size with no problem.
