Bionaire has been making air purifiers since the 1980s, long before HEPA filtration became a household term. Operating under the Newell Brands umbrella alongside Holmes and other home appliance labels, Bionaire keeps its lineup deliberately lean: a handful of True HEPA models in compact tower and 360° designs, no app required, no subscription ecosystem. Today, we will have our Bionaire BAP9921 review.
Other Bionaire’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Bionaire BAP9921 Price
Bionaire has proven itself to be the brand to watch in home air purification, with its new series of air purifiers, especially the Bionaire BAP360XL and our today Bionaire BAP9921 both deliver better performance for the price. Now, the company has seemingly set its sights on budget air purifiers, too.
The Bionaire BAP9921 will easily find its way onto our list of the best cheap air purifiers, even though it doesn’t have the Smart Sensor that you want. At the price point of only $54, its “feature” ranking may be low, we want to focus on the “performance” ranking.
Well, unless you’re reading the Bionaire BAP9260 review to see another Bionaire air purifier with such amazingly low price, you can’t get such good price anywhere. The Black+Decker BAPT01 that we reviewed many years ago simply doesn’t have the same performance as the Bionaire BAP9921. We also make a review for the Coway Airmega 50, but it also has a higher price than our today air purifier.
So, with a price point lower than the Bionaire BAP9417 AER1 and Bionaire BAP0041UV, what could you possibly expect from the Bionaire BAP9921?
Bionaire True HEPA 360° air purifier, BAP9921.
True HEPA 3-stage filtration performance, removes up to 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. 100 CADR for rooms up to 155 sq ft, verified by AHAM.

Bionaire BAP9921 Design and Size
From afar, the Bionaire BAP9921’s clean white rectangular form might catch your eye, it isn’t like any other Bionaire air purifiers, as it looks more modern.
Up close this is a more functional-looking air purifier, with perforated air intake panels on the sides, a filter replacement indicator light on the front control panel, three push buttons for timer, speed, and night light, and a subtle rounded-rectangular form rising up from its white plastic base.
The Bionaire BAP9921 is truly a compact device with only 15 inches in height and 10 inches in width. It’s even shorter than the Bionaire BAP9417 AER1, so you can easily fit it on a nightstand. That’s why Bionaire place the touch control on front.
As a budget product, the Bionaire BAP360 doesn’t need any design innovations. It has the usual cylindrical design with 360° air intake, hence the BAP360 name. It won’t win any design awards, but it gets the job done with a typical bottom-to-top airflow system concept.
Only one thing, the Bionaire BAP9921 doesn’t have a true 360° air intake system like the Bionaire BAP360 or Bionaire BAP360XL. You shouldn’t block both sides of the air purifier, or its effectiveness will get reduced.

Bionaire BAP9921 Filters
To decide the performance of one air purifier, you will need to know about the quantity and quality of its air filters, as well as the air filter types are used. The Bionaire BAP9921 uses an only mechanical 3-stage air filter.
- Pre-filter – A pre-filter captures larger particles like hair, fur, lint, and fibers first, to help extend the effectiveness and longevity of the rest of the filter.
- True HEPA filter – Removes up to 99.97% of airborne pollutants like dust, hair, pollen and more.
- Activated Carbon filter – Helps capture and reduce household odors caused by pets, cooking, smoke, and more.
Among Bionaire under-$100 lineup, the Bionaire BAP9921 has a pretty impressive result, trapping 99.96% of all particles down to 0.3 microns, and this result is only behind the Bionaire BAP0041UV. Remember that the Bionaire BAP9921 is the most affordable air purifier from this brand.

Assumptions: smoke CADR used; all Bionaire CADR figures are AHAM-verified; 8 ft ceiling assumed; perfect room mixing assumed (real-world results will vary by room geometry and purifier placement).
There’s only one problem, Bionaire doesn’t sell the BAPF9921 filter for the unit at the moment, and knowing Bionaire, we believe that the company is clearing the Bionaire BAP9921 out of stock. So you can only get third-party filter at the moment, and we will reduce its “annual cost” ranking for that reason.

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.

Bionaire BAP9921 Additional Features
The Bionaire BAP9921 surprisingly offers a handful of features, unlike other Bionaire air purifiers. It has a timer function, which you won’t find on the Bionaire BAP9417 AER1. It also has a Nightlight function, though the actual necessity of this feature is limited.
Finally, the Bionaire BAP9921 has a LED indicator for filter replacement.

Bionaire BAP9921 Customer Service
The Bionaire is one major subsidiary under the name of The Holmes Group, but the customer service is not as good as the main brand. Now, the Bionaire is owned by Sunbeam Products Inc, which was itself acquired by Jarden Corporation.
So, for most parts, the way to contact customer service of Bionaire is similar to Holmes, either by filling in the information at their Contact page, or calling them via phone at 800-253-2764.
They have good delivery option, with standard shipping rate to be from $6 to $40, depending on the order amount. At the time of writing, they also provide a Free Shipping for any orders over $50. There is a return policy for the Bionaire air purifiers, just like Holmes air purifiers, as you can return your item within 30 days of receipt for an exchange or refund of the purchase price, for any reason.
Most importantly, all Bionaire air purifiers are warranted with 3-year warranty, which is the best offer for a low-range lineup. But it seems the company can’t keep this great warranty service, as new models only have 1-year limited warranty.

Our verdict
The Bionaire BAP9921 is no doubt the most powerful air purifier you can find right now at around $50. It also has many features that you won’t have in a basic Bionaire air purifier, and for most of these traits, we highly recommend the air purifier, even when it only has C+ ranking.
