Since 2004, the Airfree has always been one of the biggest air purifier brands in Europe, with the unique and exclusive patented thermodynamic TSS technology. With the middle child of the series, the question is: can Airfree provide the right level of performance and balance of features to stand out at this ultra-competitive price point? Airfree P2000 Price

The Airfree P2000 is made to fill out the gap between the successful Airfree P1000 and the next-gen Airfree Onix 3000. It is effective for a larger room, while doesn’t cost you too much.

It is also more expensive, but not with the price that you can’t accept. You can buy the Airfree P2000 from most common retailers with the price of $269, which is $50 higher than the predecessor and Airfree BabyAir, as well as $30 higher than the Airfree Tulip 1000.

But with the increasing 1-star reviews from many highly reputable organizations, the question is: Should we buy the Airfree P2000? It seems people are likely to mistake the core function of this air purifier. It is not a HEPA air purifier, and it can’t capture the particulate matters like dust, pet hair or other objects of pollutants. The device is only for killing and sterilizing the organic allergens, with examples of mold spores, viruses and bacteria.

If you demand an air purifier to “really” filter the air, you should aim for the HEPA ones. This is a very competitive segment, and you will find lots of products with 100% ozone-free (only HEPA filter and Activated Carbon filter) like Levoit LV-H135, Medify MA-40 or Philips 1000i. Others adding some air filtration technology to improve the efficiency can also be found like Winix U300 or Biota Bot MM208.

Airfree P2000 Design and Size

Airfree P2000 is nothing different from the previous Airfree P1000, but it changes the original white color to a more premium silver one. The company calls it the Airfree P2000 Platinum for this color, and apart from this, you won’t find any differences between these models.

Actually, Airfree doesn’t need to change the design. Their air purifiers are still the most unique and exclusive in the market, as others without the patented thermodynamic TSS technology are unable to make use of this design concept.

From the top lid of this air purifier, as well as above the logo of Airfree, you will see an anti-stress blue light. It is really beautiful, and can act as a nightlight in your bedroom.

It remains the same height of 10.4 inches, but in particular, the device is a little bit heavier than the old models. However, it is only 3.2 lbs compared to 3 lbs, so it’s negligible.

Other parts are just the same, like four shells to grab the air purifier, the base with air intake grill or the perforated holes in the whole body. Instead of using fan, the Airfree P2000 (just like others in this family) uses simple convection to move the air. That’s why this device can only use the bottom-to-top air flow system concept, because the warm air can only rise.

Airfree P2000 Filters

The Airfree P2000 doesn’t use the physical HEPA filter like common air purifiers. It makes use of an exclusive technology that’s only available for Airfree products.

1. Exclusive Patented Thermodynamic TSS Technology – This technology has been independently tested in real-world conditions by ISO 17025 laboratories. The Airfree P2000 destroys the microorganisms and allergens by heating it to over 400°F (200°C) and instantly sterilizing it.

The process of eliminating microorganisms is similar to boiling the water, Airfree P2000 will continually draw in the air to proceed the heating, to the point that no common germs or viruses could be alive. Then it will cool the air and release to the room. The heating process occurs only inside the device, thus makes the air purifier warm, not hot.

I used the Airfree P1000 prior to this air purifier, and there is no sign of difference between both models. To know whether the air purifier is working or not, you need to touch the top lid. If it is warm, then your Airfree P2000 is working perfectly.

Doesn’t feel any changes in air quality? Not to worry: the Airfree P2000 is not the type of HEPA air purifier, which can actually trap and hold the contaminants inside the physical air filter. Instead, the patented thermodynamic TSS technology will kill and sterilize the dust mites, mold spores, viruses and bacteria by heating process, up to 400°F.

We should know that the heating process is not like any ionizer or UV light filtration, it won’t release any ozone and as a result, won’t trigger asthma or any breathing issues for your respiratory system.

Without the installation of air filter, you will no longer need to remember the date of filter replacement, or worry about the air filter cost anymore.

However, its actual performance/value is quite low, so we don’t really recommend get the Airfree P2000 for air cleaning.

Airfree P2000 Room Coverage

Airfree P2000 is the upgraded version of the popular P1000 in terms of room coverage capability. It is suggested to use in a room of 550 square feet by the manufacturer.

Basically, the Airfree P2000 is not a regular air purifier. It doesn’t use the fan as a mean to pull in the air, while the CADR rating indicates volume of filtered air delivered by an air cleaner, which is not designed for Airfree air purifiers. Also, the device needs to run gradually for uninterrupted cycle of air, so there is no ACH rating, either.

Airfree P2000 Sound

Without any fan power, the Airfree P2000 is completely silent. You won’t notice or hear any sound from this air purifier. In fact, you don’t even know if the air purifier is working or not. Airfree suggests to check the top lid and see if it’s warm, the air purifier is working perfectly.

Some people can’t just sleep with even the slightest noise, so the Airfree P2000 is a great solution to both purify your indoor air, and save you from loud noise.

Airfree P2000 Power Consumption

An air purifier is designed to run for a long time to be more efficient, making the high-priority question in Breathe Quality is: “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” To know the answer, we will need to check the power consumption of this air purifier.

The Airfree P2000 must run gradually 24 hours a day to reach the highest efficiency. Moreover, the patented technology of Airfree can’t have its cycle interrupted. Luckily, with higher capability, the Airfree P2000’s rated power only increases to 48 watts, which is still lower than an average light bulb.

If you run the Airfree P2000 for at least 8 hours each day, you need to pay $17 each year.

Airfree P2000 Additional Features

One common thing shared among all Airfree air purifiers is the lack of additional features. For a device of minimalism, Airfree P2000 doesn’t have any buttons, even for a simple power button. You just only plug it in, and the air purifier will run instantly.

Airfree P2000 has a smart warning sensor, to warn the users if the unit is installed improperly. Moreover, you can feel the anti-stress light from the device, which can be used as a nightlight. There is an on/off button for the light function, however.

Airfree P2000 Customer Service

Though the Airfree’s origin isn’t American, you can find their products in many of the most trusted retailers like Amazon, Sylvane or Walmart. They provide full support via email from their Contact Us page, or via phone at 626-921-4426.

The Airfree air purifiers are also backed up with a 2-year warranty policy. Though this is not the best warranty policy in the air purifier industry, it is enough for you to rely on the devices.

Our verdict

We can consider the Airfree P2000 as another color option of the previous Airfree P1000, and it will charge you for a bit more money. It can (technically) cover a larger room, but the overall experience is not much different.

However, its performance is low, and its overall ranking is D+, so we can’t recommend this air purifier.
