American air purifier maker Oreck’s latest device is part of the Air Response line, and only sits behind the Oreck AirInstinct. The Oreck Air Response Turbo is a brand new mid-range device, which shares many elements from the old Oreck Air Tower in the past. Today, let’s take a look at the flagship of one main series in Oreck family, in this Oreck Air Response Turbo Review.
It seems the Oreck Air Response Turbo has been discontinued, as we can’t find the product in Oreck website for a long time. We recommend you to look for the Oreck Air Response Large instead. However, if you can afford the Turbo, perhaps you should check the Levoit Core 600S for a much better device.
In Breathe Quality, we have reviewed all air purifiers under these sections. Also, we guarantee that:
- We do give honest reviews (both pros and cons) so anyone will guarantee to have the wisest choices.
- We do not (and never) exaggerate one product just to let you click the links and buy that product blindly.

- Smart Sensor

- Higher fan power
- No True HEPA filter
Oreck has a long history in making not only vacuum cleaners, but also the high-quality air purifiers. Since 1963, the American air purifier company has been one of the most popular brands in North America market. Oreck Air Response Turbo is the flagship of Air Response series at the moment, and let’s see if the new product can compete with other tower air purifiers in mid-range, in our today Oreck Air Response Turbo Review.
Other Oreck’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Oreck Air Response Turbo Price
There isn’t much that makes the Oreck Air Response Turbo excel as a high-quality HEPA air purifier apart from its new and trendy tower design, with a 360° air intake. But the new design concept truly makes for an all-round impressive device.
But is it true when you consider the price? You can now buy the Oreck Air Response Turbo with $379, and it could be double the price tag of previous Oreck Air Response Large. To score an air purifier with such huge leap in the price point, you really need to read the full review.
The price of the Oreck Air Response Turbo isn’t much more different than the Oreck AirInstinct, and it doesn’t have a True HEPA filter to show off. There are rarely any air purifiers in this mid-range segment without that golden standard. I believe you can only get one from Alen – the Alen BreatheSmart 45i or Alen BreatheSmart FIT50, but both of them come with a lifetime warranty.
The real competitors of this Oreck Air Response flagship are certainly the ones with tower design, like Dyson Pure Cool Tower, Levoit LV-H134 and especially, the GermGuardian AC9400W. You like this cylindrical shape? Then you shouldn’t skip the flagship of Guardian Technologies.

Oreck Air Response Turbo Design and Size
The Oreck Air Response Turbo continues to have a full-plastic unibody, and a look that’s heavily influenced by the design language of the Levoit or Medify Air air purifiers. This air purifier feels even more premium with the signature silver color, not to mention the circular air quality indicator light on front.
In fact, this is a particularly large air purifier considering it has a height of 28 inches like GermGuardian AC9400W or Medify MA-112. Both the width and the depth are 12 inches, and it’s remarkably comfortable to move with only 14 lbs for such size, and two handles from both sides.
If you are not a fan of the front control panel, you will be disappointed, as the Oreck Air Response Turbo will locate all buttons right on the front. The Oreck logo is removed for aesthetic pleasure.

Oreck Air Response Turbo Filters
To decide the performance of one air purifier, normally we will check the quality and quantity of air filters, as well as the air filter types. As the flagship of Air Response series, the Oreck Air Response Turbo will use a 3-stage air cleaning system, which is wrapped into one all-in-one filter.
- Pre-filter – Pollutants must first enter the pre-filter, to help remove the hair, fur and large dust in the air.
- Activated Carbon filter – Oreck Air Response Turbo has an Odor filter to remove unwanted odors from the air.
- HEPA filter – The main HEPA media filter can capture 99% of any particles down to 0.3 microns like pollen, dust mites, allergens, pet dander, and cooking smoke.
Even with an additional pre-filter, the core filter of Oreck Air Response Turbo isn’t a True HEPA filter, so it is a bit weaker than the Oreck AirInstinct.

However, to know the performance of this Oreck Air Response Turbo, I still need to test it. The air purifier will be put in a room of 200 square feet, and I also tested the performance of the Dyson Pure Cool Link, Boneco P400 and Medify MA-440 to compare with our today unit. Well, without the True HEPA filter, the Oreck Air Response Turbo only scored 99.9% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns.
Oreck charges you $64 for buying the air filter of this Oreck Air Response Turbo – model AK48500. At the time of writing, it seems you can’t find the replacement kit on Amazon, so you should wait us a little bit more.

Oreck Air Response Turbo Room Coverage
Inside the Oreck Air Response Turbo there’s a much more powerful fan, which considering it’s powering a flagship better than the Oreck Air Response Large. This air purifier is recommended for a room of 400 square feet.
The ACH of Oreck Air Response Turbo is 4X. As a result, this air purifier can clean your room every 15 minutes.
The CADR of Oreck Air Response Turbo is 261 Dust/ 250 Smoke/ 275 Pollen (cfm). Such fan power is identical to the GermGuardian AC9400W or Levoit LV-H134, which is certainly enough for a room of 400 square feet.

Oreck Air Response Turbo Sound
An air purifier using this cylindrical shape can enhance the air flow without using much fan power, for example in the case of Winix NK100 or GermGuardian AC9400W. The result, this design concept can optimize the noise level of Oreck Air Response Turbo.
I’ve measured the lowest noise level of Oreck Air Response Turbo to be only 35 decibels (db), which is quieter than even the library. You won’t notice any sound in this operational setting.
On highest speed, the noise level of Oreck Air Response Turbo can reach 60 decibels (in Turbo Mode). You will hear the noise quite clearly, so make sure to keep the setting as low as possible when you’re sleeping.

Oreck Air Response Turbo Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” because we need to run an air purifier for a constant long time, and power consumption is really a thing to consider.
The Oreck Air Response Turbo requires much more power consumption to operate, with a rated power of 52 watts. This power consumption is a bit better than Blue Pure 121, and that’s the reason for the Energy Star rating of Oreck Air Response Turbo.
If you run the Oreck Air Response Turbo for 8 hours per day, you will need to pay $22 each year.

Oreck Air Response Turbo Additional Features
As the flagship of Air Response series, the Oreck Air Response Turbo must include of the signature DustSense technology – name of the Smart Sensor from the first Oreck Air Response Small. It will give feedback on the circular light indicator, and adjust the fan power automatically to match the environment’s need.
The Oreck Air Response Turbo adds a Turbo Mode for maximum performance in highly polluted spaces. It is the extra power meant for extra-large rooms.
Finally, the Oreck Air Response Turbo still has a built-in Timer and LED indicator for filter replacement. These are the basic settings of any modern air purifiers.

Our verdict
Oreck Air Response Turbo brings a low-quality air filter into a mid-range segment, which sets the difficulty to very hard for this air purifier.
It seems to be discontinued, so you should steer your attention to the Levoit Core 600S instead.
