Hunter is one of the most popular fan and air purifier manufacturers in the U.S market, and the Hunter HP800 is their flagship. It targets the mid-range segment, but for a few niggles, it’s almost the perfect budget air purifier. Let’s get back to our Hunter HP800 Review.
Other Hunter’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Hunter Large Console HP800 Price
Hunter’s had a successful 2019 so far. Its new console air purifier, the Hunter HP700, impressed us in a big way, and the new flagship Hunter HP800, was a huge improvement over the first console model.
Now, it has got its sights set on the mid-range market with these air purifiers, we can believe that the Hunter HP800 is a powerful flagship combined with tapered specs and a lower price tag.
For a fantastic high-powered air purifier like the Hunter HP800, it costs you only $349 from the official Hunter website. You can certainly get one for a lower price, if you follow our below deal.
This air purifier is the tough opponent for the Sharp FP-A80UW, Airthereal AGH550 and Bissell air320, which all have the most powerful fan power. Sadly, the Hunter HP800 doesn’t have a Smart Sensor to match the others, and sometimes this is the reason we turn back on the air purifier.
I also highly recommend the Coway AP-1512HHS and Honeywell HPA8350B. If you can get a deal for these air purifiers, they offer a sweet performance as well as amazing high-end smart features.

Hunter Large Console HP800 Design and Size
One thing that is abundantly apparent comparing this Hunter HP800 to other common devices on the market is that Hunter sticks to the tried and trusted construction. It is solid built with thick plastic, to the point you can even think the Hunter HP800 is unibody.
At 25 x 20.75 x 12 inches for a weight of 25.5 lbs, the Hunter HP800 looks like a board Hunter HP700. The massive width makes the air purifier even bigger, and you can feel the Hunter HP800 thinner, although it is 4.5 inches deeper than the predecessor.
Hunter HP800 gives a flat base so it doesn’t need to be taller than the previous HP700. It is heavy and bulky, so you really need two handles from both sides to help you lift the air purifier.
So far so good, the Hunter HP800 is more practical than good-looking, so you get a common bottom-to-top air flow system concept from this air purifier. The air inlet grill is quite similar to the HP700, and together with spaces from both sides, the Hunter HP800 can utilize most of its fan power.
But this Hunter HP800 fixes the boring design with 3 different color options for its users: Black, Graphite and White. Our testing unit is in black color, and if you want to check the white version, you can follow our below deal.
Only one downside for the practical design, Hunter moved the control panel to the front. For a device that’s only 25-inch tall, it’s pretty absurd to use this control panel. This is the design of very old models, and I hope the next Hunter HP900 won’t be like this.

Hunter Large Console HP800 Filters
Not so much different from the previous models if you just count the quantity of air filters in this Hunter HP800. This is the air cleaning system that’s been used in the Hunter HP400 and Hunter HP600.
- EcoSilver Pre-filter – The Hunter’s exclusive pre-filter with silver nanoparticles to prevent the growth of microorganism pollutants like viruses, bacteria and mold. It also catches larger particles to protect other air filters.
- Activated Carbon Filter – This coconut carbon filter neutralizes harmful VOCs and household odors from cooking, cleaning, smoking and pets.
- True HEPA filter – Hunter HP800 has a True HEPA filter to remove up to 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns including smoke, dust, pollen, pet hair and dander, mold spores and dust mite debris.
In a large room of 300 square feet, the Hunter HP800 is a formidable air purifier to reckon with. It ended at 99.92% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns in our test, for only 1 hour. It is the same efficiency as the Vornado PCO575DC, and the device is even better than many popular air purifiers like TruSens Z-3000 or LG PuriCare AS401VSA0.
Hunter HP800 needs to change the air filter after 6 to 12 months. You should search for the genuine filter H-HF800, to enjoy the true EcoSilver technology.

Hunter Large Console HP800 Room Coverage
The Hunter HP800 is recommended for room size up to 550 square feet, which is a healthy bump up from the 315 square feet of the Hunter HP700. It is is bordering on great, and Hunter HP800 easily makes it through large space for just only 1 hour.
The ACH of Hunter HP800 is 5X. As the flagship of the family, Hunter HP800 can exchange the air in your room every 12 minutes.
The CADR of Hunter HP800 is 381 Dust/ 355 Smoke/ 460 Pollen (cfm). Such performance can even match the AIRMEGA 400 or LG PuriCare AS560DWR0 in high-range segment.

Hunter Large Console HP800 Sound
The Hunter HP800 is incredible because even with a buff in fan power, it can keep a very quiet operation. At 33 decibels (db) on lowest speed, the Hunter HP800 is even quieter than the Hunter HP600 with half the CADR rating. It is just like the whisper, and you can easily sleep with such sound level.
Even on highest speed, the Hunter HP800 keeps the noise around 54 decibels. It is the same as the noise level from your ground fan. You can hear it, but it isn’t annoying.

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

Hunter Large Console HP800 Additional Features
If Hunter HP800 gets all the high-end smart features, it could be a total flagship-killer for its price. However, the air purifier doesn’t have any air sensor or Wi-Fi capability. So if you want a smart air purifier, the Hunter HP800 is simply not for you.
As the flagship of the company, the Hunter HP800 includes all basic settings covered by the previous models. You will have a Sleep Mode together with Accent Light feature, which makes the device a good nightlight.
There is also a Timer setting, to schedule the time off for 2, 4 or 8 hours. Hunter HP800 features a LED indicator for filter replacement, which is useful in reminding you when to change the air filter.

Our verdict
If you want an excellent air purifier for extra-large room, and you don’t want to spend much both on upfront and operating costs, the Hunter HP800 is for you. It isn’t sleek, but it is practical, and sometimes we only need that for an air purifier.
The Hunter HP800 is obviously not a smart air purifier, so if you’re asking for a IoT device for their smart home, this air purifier is simply not for you.
