I last had a TruSens Z-2000 land on my desk just over three weeks ago. The first model – TruSens Z-1000 – which is still on sale – made a good impression as it introduced the great DirectPure technology, with dual air flow streams to increase efficiency.

However, with the TruSens Z-2000, the American company is challenging others in the same price range with a very accurate remote air sensor. Such a convenience that is only happened in the TruSens family.

You can search for the Oransi Finn or GermGuardian AC5900W to get both the UV light sterilization and HEPA performance, too. If you want a device for higher performance, you should check the Honeywell HPA300 or AeraMax 300.

TruSens Z-2000 Design and Size

The TruSens Z-2000 is far bigger than its predecessor at 22 inches in height and 9 inches in width. It keeps the signature design, seamlessly blending hard plastic with metal parts throughout. TruSens Z-2000 also uses white tone as the main color for this device.

This air purifier is built with an important technology named DirectPure. With dual flow streams from the air outlet, TruSens Z-2000 can improve the efficiency while not increasing the fan power. It is far more effective, up to 24% more for faster and better air cleaning.

Even for a taller device, TruSens still uses the bottom-to-top air flow system concept in this TruSens Z-2000. We have a 360° air inlet to draw in the polluted air from everywhere.

TruSens Z-2000 is very similar to the first TruSens Z-1000 with a simple touch control panel. However, the device has a LED indicator for air quality monitor, right at the center of the air outlet.

TruSens Z-2000 Filters

The TruSens Z-2000 sets a new standard in air filtration system from the previous models, as it upgrades to the new 4-stage air cleaning system. The efficiency will be far better, and you don’t need to change the carbon cloth filter as frequent as before.

1. Pre-filter – TruSens Z-2000 separates the pre-filter from the carbon filter, to make it washable and permanent to use. The pre-filter is the first stage of the air cleaning system, to capture large particles such as dust and pet hair.
2. Activated Carbon filter – Can remove certain gases and odors from the air, as well as many types of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
3. HEPA filter – TruSens Z-2000 only uses a HEPA-type air filter, to capture 99% of any allergens down to 0.3 microns. However, now you can use either Odor Filter or Allergy & Flu Filter to get the True HEPA filter.
4. UV-C light filter – Using the UV sterilization, the TruSens can kill 99.8% of hazardous germs and bacteria in the air. It also reduces the growth of odor-causing microbes on the surface of the filter

Just like any air purifiers in TruSens family, the TruSens Z-2000 makes use of the DuPont air filter technology. With the combination of UV-C light sterilization and high-quality HEPA filter, the TruSens Z-2000 can capture microscopic particles, allergens and volatile organic components (VOCs), and odorous gases.

Certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for safety in ozone emission, the TruSens Z-2000 is totally safe to use. It is also eligible to ship to California for complying with the highest standards of safety.

We made a new test for the upgraded True HEPA filter in this TruSens Z-2000, and the result is a bit better. It can now clean up to 99.9% of any particles down to 0.3 microns in 1 hour, in the more difficult test at 150 square feet. The air purifier is nearly the same performance as the GermGuardian AC5900, Bissell air400 or Vornado PCO375DC, despite of lower performance. It is a bit better than the new Filtrete FAP-SC02.

We need to use the new HEPA drum filter for this air purifier (AFHZ2000-01). The filter costs $39, and you only need to change the filter after 12 to 15 months of use. For the annual cost, it can beat any GermGuardian models in a long-term run. The variation of True HEPA filter costs nearly double, at $69.

TruSens Z-2000 Room Coverage

The TruSens Z-2000 is the newer model, and of course, it is meant for a much larger room coverage. The manufacturer suggests to run it in 375 square feet, which matches many other competitors in the low-range segment.

The ACH of TruSens Z-2000 is 2X to 4X. This air purifier can clean your room up to 4 times per hour.

The CADR of TruSens Z-2000 is 112 Dust/ 94 Smoke/ 117 Pollen (cfm). Well, for a $200 air purifier, the fan power is actually very low.

TruSens Z-2000 Sound

Sadly, the problem of noise level on the predecessor is once again, not solved in the TruSens Z-2000. Like the smaller brother, this air purifier can reach as high as 64 decibels, which is really noisy and you can’t sleep with it running.

Luckily, thanks to the new AC motor, TruSens Z-2000 can reduce the noise level on whisper mode to only 33 decibels (dB). Well, it is nearly the noise level of whisper, and I wish to have such mode in the small TruSens Z-1000.

TruSens Z-2000 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

Again, TruSens shows that they can do much better on reducing the power consumption of their air purifiers. It is only 28 watts on average, which deserves another Energy Star rating for TruSens team.

If you run the TruSens Z-2000 for 8 hours per day, it would cost you only $10 each year, which is even better than the smaller TruSens Z-1000. Really impressive, right?

TruSens Z-2000 Additional Features

The TruSens Z-2000 is the first device to introduce the brand new SensorPod, a remote air sensor which can be used anywhere in your home. It can detect the air quality index for an exact location, and display the accurate feedback on control panel. Moreover, the Auto Mode can adapt and change the fan automatically, in order to clean the air in your room.

With the remote air sensor, this TruSens Z-2000 could be the most accurate air purifier in the world, together with the TruSens Z-3000. The SensorPod can detect pollutants throughout the room, not just by the air purifier.

This air purifier is a much more suitable candidate for the best air purifier for bedroom than TruSens Z-1000, thanks to the Night Mode. It can dim all the lights, as well as switch the fan power to “whisper”, and let you sleep easily all night.

TruSens Z-2000 also has a built-in Timer, to turn off the device after 2, 4, 8 or 12 hours. Finally, we get a LED indicator for filter replacement, to remind us when to replace the air filters.

It is superseded by the TruSens Z-2500, which has better smart features.

Well, the TruSens Z-2000 is now better for what it’s worth, and the accurate Smart Sensor is still really a great feature. However, its suggested room coverage is still far from its actual performance, so it received a penalty in our ranking list.
