OION has made a lot of ionizers and ozone generators, as you can clearly see their products in the name: O-ion. The OION APW-4000 is the first compact HEPA air purifier to be shown, and I must say it is really necessary to choose this device for a better and safer air cleaning.

It has True HEPA filter, or that is the claim of OION Technologies, together with an UV-C light filter to remove the organic pollutants. It even has a Timer setting, and keeps the price as low as $57 on the official website of OION Technologies. Meaning it’s even cheaper than the signature OION B-1000 of the company.

This is the price range where you usually consider the Envion Therapure TPP100, Bissell MyAir and Levoit LV-H126 instead, but if you really want an UV-C light filter, the GermGuardian AC4150 and Eureka Instant Clear NEA120 are the better options to go for.

OION APW-4000 Design and Size

This budget air purifier finds itself going up against the likes of the popularity of Chinese air purifiers: Okaysou AirMic4S or Elechomes EPI081. It has a tidy and compact design which looks good. Pick it up and it feels lightweight, and the plastic body is noticeable, thanks to the size of 7.5 inches in height and 9.9 inches in width.

The air purifier runs a simple and common bottom-to-top air flow system concept. OION APW-4000 is like a mini Levoit Vital 100 for its placement of top control panel, and the device can be set horizontally for a back-to-front air flow system concept, and direct the fresh air toward the user.

OION APW-4000 Filters

OION APW-4000 is the first air purifier to not include the ionizer in its air filtration system, among others of OION Technologies. You will get a simple 4-in-1 air cleaning system as told by the manufacturer.

1. Pre-filter – The pre-filter can capture large particles such as dust, pet hair and fur, to protect and extend the HEPA filter’s life.
2. True HEPA filter – Traps 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust or dust mites.
3. Activated Carbon filter – Adsorbs cooking smell, pet odors and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
4. UV-C light filter – A built-in UV-C Sterilizer further eliminates pathogens and germs.

OION isn’t the brand you should go for if you demand the high efficiency of your air purifiers. I made a simple test for all OION air purifiers, including of the OION APW-4000 in a room of 100 square feet, and you can check its performance below. It can trap only 80% of any particles down to 0.3 microns, which is fairly bad for an air purifier in such small space.

Moreover, the OION APW-4000 is certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), so you should think again when buying the product.

Thanks to its very low fan power, the OION APW-4000 is fairly quiet. Its average noise level is just 30 decibels (db), and it’s just like the whisper. You can use the air purifier while sleeping, but remember to turn off the UV bulb for no ozone emission.
