KOIOS and Mooka are the most popular air purifier brands with their crazily low-range products. The company is based on Shenzhen – the Silicon Valley of China, which is well-known first for their cheap KOIOS EPI810. Now with the KOIOS EPI209, the company wants to enter a higher range of segment, and I think they get a point here. Okay, it’s time for the KOIOS EPI209 Review.
Other KOIOS’s Air Purifier Reviews:
KOIOS EPI209 Price
The KOIOS EPI209 suffers from some of the creaky bits you might expect of a cheap no-brand Chinese air purifier. However, the KOIOS EPI209 is decent specs-wise, making it a surprisingly good pick for those after a budget console warrior.
Air purifiers have become smarter, thanks to the advanced Smart Sensor, and a budget air purifier with such high-end thing is what we want to have right now. KOIOS EPI209 brings to us a simple air sensor, and you can just let it run automatically for daily use.
KOIOS EPI209 starts at $129, a price range which you can only find the Airthereal APH260, sometimes Rowenta PU4020 and Levoit LV-PUR131 as the options with Smart Sensor. Mooka also sells a new air purifier with cheaper price tag, but it doesn’t have air sensor to detect the air quality.
The air purifier is currently out of stock at the moment, so we will update the deal for you once it’s available again.

KOIOS EPI209 Design and Size
There isn’t much to tell about the design of a common KOIOS EPI209, which is literally similar to a lot of budget console air purifiers at the moment. Finding a bit carefully, you can have the Inofia PM1619 or Winix P300 using nearly identical body.
At dimension, KOIOS EPI209 is 23 inches tall and 15 inches wide. That’s not slim or small, but the air purifier only weighs 12.6 lbs, and you can easily lift it thanks to the back handle.
KOIOS EPI209 uses a normal bottom-to-top air flow system concept, with the air intake grill under the front cover. The air outlet is moved a bit lower from the top control panel, so you can avoid direct air flow when changing the setting.
There is a simple control panel on top of this air purifier. The air quality indicator is located on front of this device, right above the minimalism logo.

KOIOS EPI209 Filters
Even for the console air purifier, KOIOS only deploys a 3-stage air filtration system in this KOIOS EPI209.
- Pre-filter – The fine preliminary filter can remove any large objects with size bigger than 100 microns, like pet, lint and fur.
- True HEPA filter – Eliminates 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust or dust mites.
- Activated Carbon filter – Captures and neutralizes various household odors caused by cooking, smoking and other natural and unnatural gasses.
There is notion that buying a low-price Chinese air purifier can be a gamble, because quality assurance standards are going to be so much lower than if you buy a more popular brand, say, Levoit or Honeywell.
If you see an air purifier on sale from one of the big manufacturers or networks, you can figure that it’s been through approximately a thousand tests. This device? Rather fewer.
That said, my test can only check the performance of the KOIOS EPI209 right at the time of writing. For long-term use, you bet. The test I conducted for this air purifier is in a room of 150 square feet, and duration of 1 hour. I also pick the Mooka Air Purifier, Xiaomi Mi 2S Air Purifier and Hathaspace Smart True HEPA Air Purifier to compare with our today unit, because they are all from Chinese manufacturers. The result, this KOIOS EPI209 only scored an efficiency of 99.3% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns.
For the air filter, I recommend to use the genuine KOIOS air filter for this KOIOS EPI209. You need to change the filter every 6 months, and if you can’t find the link to purchase the filter replacement, here you go.

KOIOS EPI209 Room Coverage
KOIOS EPI209 is a console air purifier, therefore it is suggested for a much larger room, up to 320 square feet.
The ACH of KOIOS EPI209 is 7X. It can clean your room every 8 minutes at its maximum fan power.

KOIOS EPI209 Sound
KOIOS is proud to call their air purifiers ‘whisper-quiet’, and you should know that they don’t bluff. I’ve measured the noise level of this KOIOS EPI209, to the point it is as low as 18 decibels (db). You won’t notice whether it is running or not.
On highest speed, the noise level of KOIOS EPI209 is 60 decibels. It is audible, but it is the same as how your air conditioner works. If you find it is noisy at the highest setting, make sure to change it to Sleep Mode for whisper-quiet operation.

KOIOS EPI209 Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.
The KOIOS EPI209 needs a power consumption of 80 watts to operate, which is fairly high for its fan power. Guess you won’t have an air purifier with Energy Star rating for such high power consumption.
If you use the KOIOS EPI209 for 8 hours per day, you need to spend $30 each year.

KOIOS EPI209 Additional Features
Additional features are always the reason to choose a flagship product, and in the low-range segment, this fact is pretty true. Especially for this KOIOS EPI209, you can get the Smart Sensor for under $150. That’s great, isn’t it?
KOIOS EPI209 uses the Smart Sensor to track the current indoor air quality, and it not only uses it as indicator, but also automatically adjust the fan speed to match the environment’s need.
There is one Sleep Mode to help dim the light, as well as keep the fan speed on lowest, giving you the most restful sleep. If you want to schedule the time off, you can select between 1, 2, 4 and 8 hours of Timer.
KOIOS EPI209 also includes a Child lock function, to prevent any accidental changes of settings by your children or pets.
Finally, KOIOS EPI209 adds the LED indicator for filter replacement into play. You never need to remember the date of replacement by yourself again.
KOIOS EPI209 Customer Service
KOIOS can rival other Chinese brands that sell air purifiers in the U.S market like Hathaspace or Inofia in terms of customer service. Although KOIOS’s website is a bit unfriendly, for any troubles you may encounter, you can contact them quickly via phone at 855-558-8777. Or you want to reach them via email, you should follow their Contact Us page and get the answer.
KOIOS provides a 3-year warranty and 90-day refund (including of shipping cost), so long as you activate your product after receiving the product. They also give you an 1-year technical support for free by activating the warranty.
Additional features are the best selling point of this KOIOS EPI209, but I’ve received a lot of negative reviews for the inaccuracy of the Smart Sensor. The air purifier is quite cheap, which is suitable for a budget device, and the performance isn’t as good as Airthereal APH260, Winix 5500-2 or Levoit Vital 100 at the same price. That’s why this device is currently sold out, waiting for a better price tag when KOIOS launches it again.
It is discontinued.
