In the world of air purifier brands that make the same design over and over again, LG is truly a brand of innovative and creative.

That’s why we can expect the LG PuriCare Mini to be outstanding, a portable air purifying device that can be brought with you anywhere, and it has real power. It is a low-range air purifier that you may guess from its name, but it still costs a little too much compared to other corded portable air purifiers. It also doesn’t have the premium feel of the LG PuriCare AS401VSA0, but I don’t care so much for a beater traveling companion.

At $199, you may argue that’s not agreeable for something like the LG PuriCare Mini. But remember that you may pay more for the IQAir Atem, and it’s not really an on-the-go air purifier. Hands down other cheap devices you got on the market like the Pure Enrichment PureZone Mini or Airdog FitAir will be blown away easily by the performance of the LG PuriCare Mini.

So, this LG PuriCare Mini may not seem a bad deal to some at launch. That said, the cost is high enough to stop it earning a higher score from a common traveler, but if you travel often and obviously need a good touch of better performance, then you won’t say no to this LG PuriCare Mini’s deal.

LG PuriCare Mini Design and Size

What do you think of LG’s design? I said it is innovative and creative, from the LG PuriCare AS560DWR0 and AS330DWR0 with truly 360° air cleaning system, and up to 70° upward tilt that’s meant for better air cleaning. Then you love the LG PuriCare AS401VSA0, because it is so far from the competition, and yet it feels different and premium.

But what about the LG PuriCare Mini? It looks plain and simple, which you can’t mistake for any other device. However, such plain look makes the air purifier simple, in fact, too simple to be missed. The LG PuriCare Mini is mini in its size, 7.87 x 2.52 x 2.72 inches, so you can put it on your traveling bag easily.

It acts as a normal air purifier, there’s no instantly recognizable features on its design. You will have a common back-to-top air flow system concept, which is the best way to utilize its dual fan power, as well as make the LG PuriCare Mini kinda like a water bottle.

This air purifier has two different colors: black and white. Come on LG, I know that you think all air purifiers need to be white to be “pure”, but I really need a different color option to match my decoration.

LG PuriCare Mini has two simple physical buttons on top, as well as a clear and concise control panel. Even the flagships of this brand need to learn from the control panel of this little one. You know of LG’s app, yes, I don’t think we need any confused control panel anymore.

LG PuriCare Mini Filters

Simple yet efficient 2-stage air cleaning system is all we need for a compact and portable air purifier like the LG PuriCare Mini. Though I must admit the real benefit of this filter set is in its size and weight, not its actual efficiency.

1. Pre-filter – A permanent pre-filter will help you capture the large particles of contaminants, from pet hair, human hair and mold. It also prolongs the life time of the main filter.
2. HEPA filter – It works and looks like a HEPA filter, and it efficiency is capped at 99% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns, tested by Intertek.

Again, I must say that it’s really difficult to set up a real-world test for portable air purifiers, so I guess the Intertek test is the standard to check this air purifier. Its main filter feels and looks like a real HEPA filter, so I’m pretty sure it can go full against any types of airborne allergens, be it as small as 0.3 microns. The test is made within 155 minutes, and in a space of 35 square feet, and the score of 99% is truly great.

However, if you only want to use an air purifier for home, you should consider either the Coway AP-1512HH, Winix AM90 or Blue Pure 311 Auto, as they are all our choices of best air purifier.

LG PuriCare Mini Room Coverage

Again, the LG PuriCare Mini is a portable on-the-go air purifier, so I don’t think it is proper to limit it by room coverage. Tested by Intertek, it seems the air purifier is quite suitable for any space up to 40 square feet. Actually if you use it for at least 8 hours, the air purifier can run at larger space.

The ACH of LG PuriCare Mini depends on the room size, up to 4X. At maximum power, the air purifier can clean the air every 15 minutes.

The CADR of LG PuriCare Mini is 30 cfm in general. It can match the performance of many table-top air purifiers at home, and if you plan to use it on bedroom, yes, it can offer good result.

LG PuriCare Mini Sound

A portable product like the LG PuriCare Mini is meant to be quiet. At only 30 decibels (db) on lowest speed, the LG PuriCare Mini is quiet as a whisper, so you can take it to the library, office or any open co-working space without disturbing anyone around you.

On highest speed, the noise level reaches 48 decibels, which is still way too quiet for an air purifier. Actually, you won’t notice it’s running.

LG PuriCare Mini Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review how much energy this air purifier will consume.

The LG PuriCare Mini uses a built-in battery with 3600 mAh. At rating voltage of 5 volts and power of 12 watts, the air purifier can run up to 8 hours on low speed, and 2 hours on high speed. You need approximately 4 hours to recharge the LG PuriCare Mini.

If you use the LG PuriCare Mini for 8 hours each day, it would cost you just $2 per year. That’s really great, right.

LG PuriCare Mini Additional Features

Being the most compact and portable air purifier of the line, everybody will think of the LG PuriCare Mini as a simple device without any additional features. Well, you’re wrong to think that. The LG PuriCare Mini is one of the most advanced air purifiers to date.

It is connected via Bluetooth with its own LG PuriCare Mini app, that gives you automatic notification of current air quality index, as well as when to change the filter. The app also records air pollution history and battery level, so you have full control over your air purifier. Moreover, it acts like a remote control.

The LG PuriCare Mini also features a PM 1.0 sensor, which is more proficient air sensor than the common PM 2.5. It detects the level of ultra-fine particles in your air, and provides real-time protection with its Auto Mode. To have a Smart Sensor for a portable air purifier is really sweet, right?

Our verdict

The LG PuriCare Mini is a different solution than a common home air purifying system, so it is out of the competition. It is actually a budget portable device, compared with things like the IQAir Atem or Dyson Pure Cool Me, but its price is still far from agreeable.

It can’t be use if you are a runner (but if you are a cyclist, you can try). Again, I think it isn’t working outdoors so you should only use the device in the cafe or office. It has many advanced additional features to match the price, and it does that much better than other portable product.

However, if you mainly need an air purifier for home use, I highly advise against this LG PuriCare Mini. Yes, you can’t combine two purposes in this same device.
