Vornado once called this Vornado QUBE50 model as ‘perfect’, as this air purifier was a rare air purifier with True HEPA filter for low-range budget, and I didn’t mention the perfect customer support of this company.

Today, things like Vornado QUBE50 are stuffed in the market, and even in Vornado family, we can find a lot of good air purifiers in the same price range. Notable products are Vornadobaby Purio and Vornado AC350, together with its bigger brother – Vornado AC550. Since then, the Vornado QUBE50 is even changed to the Vornado CYLO50, and you can’t even find it on Vornado website.

I’m often impressed with what air purifier manufacturers can do for their budget devices these days. Now you get a True HEPA filter for less than $100, with decent fan power to deliver personal experience. Vornado QUBE50 may be an old product, but it is still has the unique selling point to be sold.

Vornado QUBE50 costs you officially $99, $10 cheaper than the Vornado CYLO50 with better legs. However, it keeps everything that is great for the new air purifier, and if you focus on the quality, the Vornado QUBE50 can meet your requirements.

For $99, it was a competitor with the Levoit LV-H132. Today, modern air purifiers are likely to use the 360° air filter, just like Blue Pure 411 and Airthereal ADH80. If you are looking for an air purifier with unique design, you can also check the TruSens Z-1000 or AeraMax Baby DB5.

Vornado QUBE50 Design and Size

The Vornado QUBE50 has come a long way from the big console air purifier concept of Vornado original devices, like Vornado PCO300 or Vornado AC350. In fact, it is small and compact, which is like a cube standing in 4 legs. The height of this product is just 14 inches with legs, so you can put Vornado QUBE50 tabletop.

This air purifier is also safe for your children, as it doesn’t have sharp edges and pinch points, similar to the Vornadobaby Purio. The air purifier is simple with white color, and a gray logo near the bottom. It doesn’t show anything new, still I like its simplicity.

The Vornado QUBE50 has 4 detachable legs, and because of that, it gives me a feeling of instability. The legs are made of stainless steel, and it raises the base of this unit up high, to support its bottom-to-top air flow system concept. It is extremely design-wise, solving the main problem of the Levoit LV-H132.

It has a simple touch control panel on top, with only one power button, one filter reset function and 4 different fan speeds. You won’t need even the manual to use the Vornado QUBE50.

This Vornado QUBE50 is also easy to replace the filter, as you don’t need to remove the legs. Instead, you need to remove the filter frame by twisting the support tabs, then the uninstall process is very simple.

The Vornado QUBE50 could be the most lightweight air purifier in Vornado family, with a weight of only 7 lbs.

Vornado QUBE50 Filters

With an air filter similar to the Levoit LV-H132, we can easily guess the Vornado QUBE50 will run the same 3-stage air cleaning system.

1. Pre-filter – A preliminary filter covers the True HEPA filter, to extend the life time of the core filter, by trapping the large objects of pollutants like fur, hair and large dust.
2. True HEPA filter – With the True HEPA filter, this air purifier can capture 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns allergens, virus particles, pollen, mold and fungi particles.
3. Activated Carbon filter – Honeycombed carbon filter to effectively remove odors.

Again, we have another 100% ozone-free air purifier from Vornado company, as the Vornado QUBE50 is certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for its safe operation. It is recommended to run the Vornado air purifier especially when you sleep.

In the same test with the Vornadobaby Purio and Vornado AC350, in a room of 100 square feet, Vornado QUBE50 is quite inferior to its brothers, because of its lower fan power. It is also weaker than Honeywell HPA100 and VAVA VA-EE008, with the efficiency of only 99.7% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns. However, you should remember that this air purifier is still the cheapest among the list.

You will use the all-in-one MD1-0039 air filter for this Vornado QUBE50, which is the same as the Vornado CYLO50. It is also the most affordable Vornado filter, with only $19 in price tag. You need to change the filter every 6 months.

Vornado QUBE50 Room Coverage

The Vornado QUBE50 has a jacked up fan power, which is better than many competitors of the past in terms of CADR rating. It is recommended for only 100 square feet, and I trust this spec completely.

The ACH of Vornado QUBE50 is 5X to 6X. This is the unique selling point of the Vornado QUBE50, as it can constantly deliver fresh air in your room, for every 10 minutes.

The CADR of Vornado QUBE50 is 73 Dust/ 60 Smoke/ 84 Pollen (cfm). It is stronger than most popular air purifiers like Levoit Vista 200 or hOmeLabs Air Purifier.

Vornado QUBE50 Sound

It seems Vornado rarely talked about their product’s noise level, as it is quite impossible for a strong fan power with up to 2260 rpm to stay quiet. The noise level of Vornado QUBE50 can reach as high as 55 decibels, which is quite hard to sleep with.

On lowest speed, the noise level at 850 rpm is just only 35 decibels (db), and it is quieter than even the library mode. You won’t notice any sound from this operation of Vornado QUBE50.

Vornado QUBE50 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

Vornado QUBE50 comes with the lowest power consumption in Vornado family, with rated power of only 52 watts on highest. It is still far higher than common air purifiers in the same price range, though.

Together with the Vornado AC350, the Vornado QUBE50 is the most simple air purifier this company has manufactured. It only has one LED indicator for filter replacement, to remind you when to change the air filter. Don’t expect any other additional features in this product.

If you want to taste the high-end Smart Sensor from Vornado family, at least you should look for the Vornado AC550 or Vornado PCO375DC. Or if budget isn’t your problem, the Vornado PCO575DC is certainly the best this company can offer.

Our verdict

Vornado QUBE50 wants to sweep up the affordable air purifier market offering some pretty impressive specs for under $100. The biggest selling feature of the Vornado QUBE50 is its combination of uniquely high fan power and decent True HEPA filter. It’s hard to think of another manufacturer offering such high ACH rating for such a low price.

Still, I dislike the high noise level and power consumption of this Vornado QUBE50. Perhaps we should raise the budget for higher-end air purifiers of Vornado.
