The VAVA VA-EE008 offers incredible air filtration system and still manages to tick off all the other aspects you’d want from a fantastic budget air purifier. If you are satisfied with a Chinese air purifier (for lower cost), but you still need a trusted device with certification from reputable organizations, the VAVA VA-EE008 is for you.

Today, we see more and more air purifiers with certification of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for being safe to use. However, it is still rare to see an air purifier tested by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), to prove the capability of this air purifier. The VAVA VA-EE008, despite of being a budget air purifier from an anonymous brand, is holding both these certifications.

The company claims the VAVA VA-EE008 will be their ace, and not skimp on other areas to be able to be the best budget air purifier.

VAVA VA-EE008 costs you officially $139, which is $50 more expensive than the previous VAVA VA-EE004. Thanks to be the newest device in the family, I expect the VAVA VA-EE008 to be more available in stock.

VAVA VA-EE008 Design and Size

Most air purifiers with the a similar price to the VAVA VA-EE008 will make a sleek design to compensate for the weak performance. Our today unit, however, resembles the first VAVA VA-EE004 with the simple plastic body with no curve, painted in a plain white color.

But the simplicity makes this air purifier good look, and it feels quality, too. The VAVA VA-EE008 uses rounded corners that mean it doesn’t feel sharp at first impression. It isn’t big with only 20 inches in height, and 13 inches in width.

There is no feeling of a 360° air intake like the predecessors, because VAVA locates the air intake only from the back. It is common to move air flow from the back in Chinese air purifiers, as the Okaysou AirMax8L even marketed it as the improvement for directing the air. Yes, we still have the common bottom-to-top air flow system concept.

The buttons in top control panel are now bigger, but they still give space for the air quality indicator, which is sadly just a small LED light and you can easily miss the report. The top air outlet, however, is really big with parallel grills.

It’s worth noting the VAVA VA-EE008 is heavier, with a weight of 12.5 lbs. But it has a convenient handle, so you can move it wherever you want.

VAVA VA-EE008 Filters

To check the performance of one air purifier, we decide by the quantity and quality of its air filters, as well as the air filter types are being used. The VAVA VA-EE008 is truly the flagship of this company, with the strongest 5-stage air cleaning system, with 4-in-1 mechanical filters.

You can still buy air purifier with an extra ionizer or UV-C light filter like in the Airthereal APH260 or TruSens Z-1000, or add more mechanical filters like the RENPHO RP-AP001, but this VAVA VA-EE008 is a rare air purifier tested by the AHAM, so it proves its capability of cleaning air.

The HEPA filter of VAVA is qualified to be True HEPA filter, and you won’t be disappointed with the overall performance using an extra ionizer. Remember that the VAVA VA-EE008 is completely certified by the CARB, so it meets all the standards of not emitting too much ozone.

However, the extra layer of pre-filter is behind the True HEPA filter, which is kinda strange, as it can only capture the large objects that the HEPA filter has already captured. To be honest, I don’t see this extra filter do anything better for the VAVA VA-EE008.

As the flagship of one company, I expected much more for the performance of this VAVA VA-EE008, so I tested it in a room of 150 square feet, which is larger than its brothers. It is tested against the popular Chinese air purifiers like Xiaomi Mi 2S Air Purifier or Okaysou AirMax8L, as well as many native American devices like GermGuardian AC5600, Honeywell 17000-S or Levoit LV-PUR131. The VAVA VA-EEE008 reached the performance of many well-known American air purifiers, with high efficiency of 99.9% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns.

The latest edition of VAVA family uses a bigger air filter, which needs 6 to 12 months to be replaced. It is also more expensive than the predecessors.

VAVA VA-EE008 Room Coverage

As an air purifier to compete in $150-ish price range, the VAVA VA-EE008 must match the fan power of the top dogs, so it is recommended for a room of 322 square feet, tested by the AHAM.

The ACH of VAVA VA-EE008 is 4X. This air purifier can clean your room every 15 minutes.

The CADR of VAVA VA-EE008 is 148 Dust/ 152 Smoke/ 113 Pollen (cfm). To be clear, I didn’t find the VAVA VA-EE008 to be much stable with its fan power. But that’s still a big jump up from most other devices out there, as the VAVA VA-EE008 is only behind the most popular Winix air purifier system.

VAVA VA-EE008 Sound

Using the VAVA VA-EE008 is an enjoyable but not exceptional experience. It’s quiet on whisper mode, trim the sound down to 30 decibels (db). The silent operation is enough to bring you gentle sleep through the night.

The highest noise level of VAVA VA-EE008 is still acceptable at 50 decibels. For a better fan power than the VAVA VA-EE004 and VAVA VA-EE014, the flagship of VAVA is still able to keep the quiet operation.

VAVA VA-EE008 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

Average day use of the VAVA VA-EE008 meant we could accept only the rated power of 50 watts, which is just the same power consumption as the VAVA VA-EE004. For a device with Smart Sensor, the average power consumption would be much lower.

If you run the VAVA VA-EE008 for at least 8 hours per day, you need to pay $18 each year.

VAVA VA-EE008 Additional Features

Being the competitor with many smart air purifiers in this price range like Winix 5500-2 and Levoit LV-PUR131, the Smart Sensor feature is necessary to keep the VAVA VA-EE008 in the market. When using the Smart Sensor, the VAVA VA-EE008 continuously monitor the current air quality index by adjusting the fan speed. You need to press the Fan button for 3 seconds to activate the Auto Mode.

VAVA VA-EE008 has a simple Sleep Mode setting, to turn off all indicators except the Sleep Mode indicator, as well as keep the air purifier run on lowest speed. This air purifier also has a basic Timer, to schedule the time off for 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours.

Finally, we have a LED indicator for filter replacement, to remind us when to change the air filter.

However, the reputation of the parent company – Sunvalley Group is enough to make their devices more viable. The VAVA VA-EE008 deserves to be its flagship, with decent fan power and good air filtration system (with one redundant pre-filter) for the price.
