Sharp is ready to gain more market share in the North American market with the new duo: the Sharp KC-P70UW and Sharp KC-P110UW. Do you wonder if the smaller Sharp KC-P70UW is proper for your home? Let’s find out in this Sharp KC-P70UW Review.
Other Sharp’s Air Purifier Reviews:
Sharp KC-P70UW Price
The Sharp KC-P70UW is a unique experience that you can only rely on, and it’s very hard to find a combination of both an air purifier and a humidifier that actually works at the moment. Only Sharp and Boneco are considered the best places to get this type of air purifier.
Both the old Sharp KC-850U and the new Sharp KC-860U have been quite successful up until now. They both offer reliable performance and adequate humidification for low maintenance costs. But if you’re looking for a more powerful option, the Sharp KC-P70UW is exactly what you should seek out.
However, don’t expect the price of this Sharp KC-P70UW to be cheap, as you can guess from its predecessors. You can get a Sharp KC-P70UW at $529 on Sharp’s official website, or check our deal for a lower price at only $499. Either way, the Sharp KC-P70UW represents a return to the most welcome aspect of the brand’s roots, offering good performance as both an air purifier and humidifier.
Yes, you need to sacrifice the wonderful fan power of the Sharp FX-J80UW, which has been our recommendation of the best air purifier for a long time, but you get advantages from the humidifier function. It is something that you don’t have if you buy the Levoit EverestAir, Winix XLC or Airmega Icon instead.

Sharp KC-P70UW Design and Size
The Sharp KC-P70UW is a big departure from the brand’s first air purifier, especially if you try to compare it with the previous Sharp KC-850U and Sharp KC-860U. I have tried and tested a few Sharp models that are only available in Asia, and still the latest Sharp KC-P70UW and Sharp KC-P110UW are different.
It does speak the same design language as the modern Sharp FX-J80UW, but the Sharp KC-P70UW has a sleek top control panel that covers the air outlet. The other perspective stays the same, as the air purifier runs on a simple bottom-to-top airflow system concept.
The Sharp KC-P70UW isn’t a small product; in fact, you can’t find a proper combination of air purifier and humidifier that is small. The product dimensions are 28.6 x 15.8 x 12.6 inches, which reminds me of Sharp flagship products like the Sharp FP-A80UW. It somewhat reminds me of the Sharp KC-F70-W, but I like the modern design of the Sharp KC-P70UW.
The spotlight is, again, the iconic Plasmacluster symbol and Sharp logo on the front. However, it can block the view of the control display, which isn’t a problem for a smart product. While the use of mechanical buttons is my go-to option, I don’t like the display control panel, which is kind of messy.

You should notice that the Sharp KC-P70UW weighs 22.3 lbs, which is quite heavy. However, the Sharp KC-P70UW has 4 casters, so you can move it anywhere easily.

Sharp KC-P70UW Filters
Sharp has been one of the major air filter manufacturers for so long that there is no reason for the company to change its air filtration system. The Sharp KC-P70UW will run the same 4-stage air cleaning system as its brothers.
- Pre-filter – The washable, microscreen pre-filter traps dust and large airborne particles.
- Activated Carbon filter – It helps reduce pet odors and smoke, as well as some common household chemicals.
- True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns of particles like pollen, dust, pet dander, smoke, germs, bacteria, viruses, odors, mold, and fungus.
- Plasmacluster Technology – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.
The combination of mechanical filters and Plasmacluster ion technology is somewhat why the Sharp KC-P70UW is so powerful at trapping airborne contaminants. While the normal ionizer only emits negative ions to weigh down the pollutants, the Plasmacluster ions can form hydroxyls that decompose the protein and suppress the activity of the viruses. The result of this process is harmless water molecules, which return to the air invisibly.
Plasmacluster ions are proven to be effective by 17 tests made worldwide in the United States, UK, Germany, Japan, South Korea, China, and Vietnam. Lab tests show that the Sharp KC-P70UW can reduce 90.2% of MS2 viruses, 94% of E. coli, up to 84.3% of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria, and 87.7% of mold and fungus in 4 hours. Also, the Plasmacluster can tackle odors and efficiently support the Activated Carbon filter in trapping odors that are embedded in carpets, draperies, and furniture.

However, the Sharp KC-P70UW has a low density of 7000 ions/cm3, so it isn’t as effective as the Sharp FX-J80UW. Still, the performance of this Sharp KC-P70UW is okay for the most part, as you can see in our test. It’s slightly behind the Aprilaire 9550V and Blueair HealthProtect 7470i, but it’s still great for such large rooms.
Despite its different name, the air filter FZ-P11HFU feels the same as the filter FZ-J80HFU from the FX-J80UW model. It seems the Sharp KC-P70UW and Sharp KC-P110UW will share the same Activated Carbon filter as Sharp’s current flagship model.

Sharp KC-P70UW Room Coverage
Sharp once again put its air purifiers under the strict test made by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), so you can trust any room size’s suggestion for Sharp products. The Sharp KC-P70UW is able to clean rooms up to 400 square feet.
The ACH of Sharp KC-P70UW is 5X. Any air purifiers verified by the AHAM will clean the suggested room size 5 times per hour.
The CADR of Sharp KC-P70UW is 260 Dust/ 255 Smoke/ 259 Pollen (cfm). Its CADR rating is, well, not as good as a $200-cheaper Honeywell HPA5300. It is still decent enough to clean larger rooms, but it will take more time.

Sharp KC-P70UW Sound
Sharp is well-known for its LibraryQuiet technology, which trims down the noise level while retaining high fan power. The Sharp KC-P70UW, despite its size, has a way to run as quietly as 21 decibels (dB). This setting is perfect for the bedroom.
Even at its highest fan speed, the Sharp KC-P70UW has an impressive noise level of only 47 decibels. It should be the benchmark for any air purifier designed for large bedrooms.

Sharp KC-P70UW Power Consumption
One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifiers must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criterion for reviewing how much energy this air purifier will consume.
As an Energy Star air purifier, the Sharp KC-P70UW is one of the best energy-efficient air purifiers that I’ve ever tested. It has a CADR/watt ratio of 6.4, and the rated power of the Sharp KC-P70UW is only 39 watts for such great fan power. The Sharp KC-P70UW is truly an air purifier that “ensures a lower total cost of ownership over the years”, according to Sharp.
If you’ll run the Sharp KC-P70UW at least 8 hours per day, you’ll only need to pay $14 per year. That’s the lowest energy cost you need to run a decent device for large rooms.

Sharp KC-P70UW Additional Features
The Sharp KC-P70UW is supposed to be the latest high-end Sharp air purifier, so it doesn’t miss out on any additional features. So to say, the first and foremost additional feature is the IoT Wi-Fi Enabled feature. You can easily control your air purifier anywhere and anytime.
Yes, the Sharp KC-P70UW is able to do anything you want from a smart device, from giving you real-time air quality to running on fixed fan mode on a schedule. The air purifier is compatible with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, so you can use voice commands to quickly set up your device.
And you shouldn’t forget that the Sharp KC-P70UW is also a humidifier, which runs a different system and air filter that doesn’t affect the main HEPA’s quality. It is a must-have feature for the winter, and I must admit that the Sharp combo of an air purifier and humidifier is your best bet.
The Sharp KC-P70UW also has both dust and odor sensors, so it can tackle the tiniest airborne particles. The air purifier will adjust its fan speed based on the real-time air quality in your home. Moreover, the Sharp KC-P70UW makes use of a laser sensor to detect your presence, so it can automatically turn on or off depending on whether you’re in or outside the selected area.
Basic settings like the timer or LED indicator for filter replacement are available in the Sharp KC-P70UW, so you will have a full-featured air purifier that meets any requirement.

Sharp KC-P70UW Customer Service
Sharp is a huge brand; of course it is. But this brand is not as popular in the U.S. market as it is in the rest of the world. Yes, marketing is one aspect of this unpopularity, but it also implies a difficulty in finding good customer service if you live in the United States.
But don’t worry, as the U.S. subsidiary of Sharp is quite active and would like to hear from you. You can reach its customer service toll-free at 800-237-4277 or via email through the “Product Support” page. Sharp’s customer service is available to you 24/7, every day.
However, for air purifiers, the company only provides a 1-year warranty. For most situations, I believe this warranty is enough to cover your device.
Sharp Smart air purifier + humidifier, KCP70UW.
The smart combination of air purifier and humidifier, compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Plasmacluster ion technology for large-sized rooms.
Our verdict
The Sharp KC-P70UW is a good upgrade over the good-old Sharp KC-860U. However, it is still quite expensive for the performance, and if you don’t really need the humidifier feature, it would be a waste of money.
