In fact, I even think of this air purifier as a good alternative to the Levoit Core 300, though the Hunter Digital Medium Tower HP40 still has a lower performance.

Don’t expect miracles at this price, but for only $129, the Hunter Digital Medium Tower is a good starter for trying Hunter air purifiers. It manages to reach respectability in all the areas that matter most.

The Hunter Digital Medium Tower HP400 is an interesting option to look for $129, especially when this price range is crowded by lots of Chinese air purifiers like Elechomes EPI236 or Okaysou AirMax8L. Other strong contenders to be found are VEVA ProHEPA 9000, Envion Therapure TPP620 or Filtrete FAP-C03BA-G2.

Hunter Digital Medium Tower HP400 Design and Size

You haven’t forgotten the low, low price of this air purifier have you? Because I’m going to keep mentioning it. For a device with cheaper launching price than the Hunter HP100, the Hunter HP400 looks much better. In fact, you are suddenly going to confuse it for a premium-level device.

The common cylindrical tower design leads the way, which is sensible for a compact and affordable air purifier model. It once was popular with the Levoit LV-H132, and it seems you won’t get a cheap air purifier without this design.

As is the norm on the current air purifier today, you get a basic air purifier with the Hunter HP400. It has a medium size for a tabletop cylindrical tower air purifier, with 16.7 inches in height and 7.7 inches in diameter. To stay out of the common crowd, this air purifier has a diagonal top like the TruSens Z-1000.

That’s perfect for an air purifier with such smooth grain surface. Its color options are noticeable, with 4 different color option for you to get. Hunter HP400 uses a simple but high-quality 3-stage air cleaning system that you will later find on the Hunter HP600 and Hunter HP700. Let’s see why I think of these air filters as ‘premium’.

1. EcoSilver Pre-filter – The Hunter’s exclusive pre-filter with silver nanoparticles to prevent the growth of microorganism pollutants like viruses, bacteria and mold. It also catches larger particles to protect other air filters.
2. Activated Carbon Filter – This coconut carbon filter neutralizes harmful VOCs and household odors from cooking, cleaning, smoking and pets.
3. True HEPA filter – Hunter HP400 has a True HEPA filter to remove up to 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns including smoke, dust, pollen, pet hair and dander, mold spores and dust mite debris.

The performance of Hunter HP400 is fine in the price range, as it scored a good efficiency of 99.8% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns in our test. Though it was a bit weaker than the Vornadobaby Purio or Filtrete FAP-C02WA-G2, it was just a minor difference.

Hunter HP400’s air filter is H-HF400 model, and you are recommended to change the filter every 6 months. Depending on use, you can prolong the filter life up to 12 months.

Hunter Digital Medium Tower HP400 Room Coverage

The Hunter HP400 is even cheaper than the previous HP100 model, so you shouldn’t expect a larger room coverage. In fact, the suggested room size of this air purifier is only 106 square feet.

The ACH of Hunter HP400 is 5X. This air purifier showcases the powerful fan motor as it can clean your room up to 5 times per hour.

The CADR of Hunter HP400 is 75 Dust/ 68 Smoke/ 91 Pollen (cfm). Such CADR rating is nowhere near the performance of the best air purifiers like Levoit Core 300 and Airthereal APH260, so the Hunter HP400 needs more time to clean the same room completely.

Whether it’s day-to-day air purifier using or nighttime, the Hunter Digital Medium Tower HP400 keeps a perfect silent operation. It is reasonable for an air purifier with such low fan power, to maintain the sound level as low as 32 decibels (db). It is just like the whisper, and can be compared with the Filtrete FAP-C03BA-G2.

Its noise level at maximum fan speed is better than most average air purifiers, as the Hunter HP400 is just 47 decibels. On average, the max noise level of an air purifier is acceptable in 50 decibels range.
