Elechomes KJ200-A3B Price

A solid Wi-Fi Enabled smart air purifier with good filtration power and attractive price tag slides into a crowded market, but it is quite late in the race of budget smart air purifiers. People often look for an in-depth comparison between this Elechomes KJ200-A3B and things like Levoit LV-PUR131S and RENPHO RP-AP001S.

The Chinese air purifier manufacturer Elechomes has been in the air purifier game since 2018, but it’s yet to become a household name. Levoit, Medify Air and Airthereal are gaining the mid-range market share, and still Elechomes struggles to compete in the low-range segment.

However, I must admit the lineup of Elechomes is pretty good to look for. The first Elechomes UC3101 is a big and solid air purifier with dual air sensors for better PM 2.5 reading, while the Elechomes EPI236 is an impressive way to get Smart Sensor on budget.

That’s why I’m quite interested in the new Elechomes KJ200-A3B. You can find this air purifier on official Elechomes website with only $169. That’s a great discount for a smart air purifier, especially for anyone who’s sensitive to the price.

Wi-Fi Enabled Capability, True HEPA filtration for large room and decent price, is Elechomes trying to do too much for a little? Look around, the GermGuardian CDAP5500BCA can’t run so much fan power, and Airthereal APH260 doesn’t have such high-end features. Now let’s go into other specs to see if the Elechomes can never let you down.

Elechomes KJ200-A3B Design and Size

If you happen to search Google for the Elechomes KJ200-A3B, you may encounter a similar product to this air purifier: the Olansi KJ200-A3B. It seems Elechomes is the main provider of many other Chinese air purifier products, then they just slap their logo on. For example the Elechomes EPI236 and Elechomes EPI081 are from Healthlead Corporation.

The design of the Elechomes KJ200-A3B somehow remind me of the Winix AM90, which is currently the best air purifier for smart features on a budget. In fact, the Elechomes KJ200-A3B is smaller with only 20 inches in height. You can easily set up the air purifier in your home, thanks to its compact size.

This Elechomes KJ200-A3B also has perforated holes for the air inlet, but the front plate is quite difficult to remove at first. You need to press the “push” warnings on both sides to open the front cover. Problem is, because the letter “push” in plain white color, you may skip the instruction, and don’t know how to open the cover.

Simple bottom-to-top air flow system concept is using in this Elechomes KJ200-A3B. The only reason I think this air purifier has a good design is its top air outlet, which is quite stylish with the touch control panel. Other design is just common, and nothing special.

At 11 lbs, the Elechomes KJ200-A3B isn’t the best sturdy air purifier in the world. In the manual, the manufacturer also “prohibit” from moving while operating. And it needs to keep a distance with the wall and other furniture as well, so it isn’t easy to set up this new air purifier.

The last but not least, I don’t think placing the air sensor under the handle is a wise design. Somehow you can touch the air sensor, and reduce its efficiency by accident.

Elechomes KJ200-A3B Filters

Like every other budget and common air purifiers out there on the market, the Elechomes KJ200-A3B has little to make it stand out. A simple 3-stage air cleaning system is used in this air purifier.

1. Pre-filter – To trap large pollutants like hair, lint and fur. It is washable, and you need to rinse it every 15 days.
2. Composite Carbon cloth filter – A combination of an anti-bacterial cloth and Activated Carbon filter, to prevent the growth of bacteria, viruses and mold spores on the surface of the True HEPA filter, as well as minimizes all odors, formaldehyde and benzene.
3. True HEPA filter – Filters any PM2.5 particles like dust, pollen, smoke… with high efficiency up to 99.97%.

*Note: Elechomes contacted us and guaranteed that all their air purifiers are legal to be sold in California. At the moment, the products aren’t listing on CARB website, but to honor their claim, I will update the review as soon as possible.

The Elechomes KJ200-A3B is tested in the same conditions as the Elechomes UC3101, in a room of 150 square feet and under 1 hour. However, the new air purifier had a lower efficiency, up to 99.7% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns. Its efficiency was also lower than the RENPHO RP-AP002 or Medify MA-25 in the same price range.

For the filter replacement, Elechomes KJ200-A3B requires to change the main air filters every 2 months. This filter’s life time is 6 times lower than the UC3101 model…

In fact, the air filter can last for at least 6 months, or even more.

Elechomes KJ200-A3B Room Coverage

Elechomes seems to have only one fan motor for all their air purifiers. This is another Elechomes air purifier with the suggested room size of 325 square feet.

The ACH of Elechomes KJ200-A3B is 2X to 4X. This air purifier will exchange the air in your room every 15 minutes.

The CADR of Elechomes KJ200-A3B is 135 cfm in general. This fan power is nowhere near the fan power of our recommended products like AIRMEGA 200M or Honeywell HPA300.

Elechomes KJ200-A3B Sound

The Elechomes KJ200-A3B is tinny and quiet, because its fan motor capability is incredibly basic, and it shouldn’t run too noisily.

So to say, the range of this air purifier’s sound level is 30 to 55 decibels (db), and I think such performance is a bit better than the compact Elechomes EPI236. Finally, we have a good Elechomes air purifier for bedroom.

Elechomes KJ200-A3B Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

The power consumption of Elechomes KJ200-A3B is passable, though it is not really too high. However, the power consumption at 65 watts is quite high for such a weak fan power.

If you run the Elechomes KJ200-A3B for at least 8 hours per day, you will need to pay $23 each year.

Elechomes KJ200-A3B Additional Features

Perhaps this is the most expected part to check the Elechomes KJ200-A3B. Positioning itself to be the budget smart air purifier, the Elechomes KJ200-A3B can be controlled from your smartphone via Wi-Fi. The real stand-out here is the inclusion of this feature, because if I recall correctly, you can’t get any smart air purifier for such low price.

However, from the real-world testing, I and my team had encountered several issues with the Internet connection. The app for this air purifier is the same application for many different household devices, and if you happen to own more than two smart devices, sometimes one isn’t working.

Also, the ridiculous air sensor placement is the main culprit of displaying false air quality index result. It’s a shame for the Elechomes KJ200-A3B, especially when the Elechomes UC3101 did much better.

Other settings work just as you’d expect, and appear with no delay. The Timer helps you schedule the time off after 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours. There is again a Child lock function, to prevent any accidentally changes of setting.

Of course, we still have the LED indicator for filter replacement.

Our verdict

There’s not many air purifiers to get smart features for $169 these days, and while there are some disappointing areas of the Elechomes KJ200-A3B, this air purifier can bring many other air purifiers down their price.

There are also positives shining through. The new air purifier is much quieter on highest speed, and its fan power is much better than other compact Elechomes devices. However, its low performance, poor Wi-Fi connection and very low filter’s life time doesn’t allow me to recommend it.
