AirDoctor AD4000 Price

The AirDoctor 4000 may be the brand’s necessary bridge from the AirDoctor AD3500 and AirDoctor AD5500, so the brand can comfortably raise the price of its flagship. The old boxy AD3000-era housing has now given way to a new tower design, because the AirDoctor AD4000 is more similar to the AD5500 than the AD3500.

It’s expensive, but you’re reading about AirDoctor air purifiers, so I don’t think you’re surprised by the price. The AirDoctor AD4000 starts at $799, so it’s a $150 jump from the previous AD3500. If you’re looking for the AirDoctor AD4000i – the smart version – you must pay $50 more.

You can check our deal for a 15% off to buy the base AirDoctor AD4000 at only $679, which is easier to stomach if you’re looking for a large-room air purifier.

But still, the AirDoctor AD4000 is in the same spot as the Alen BreatheSmart 75i and Coway Airmega 400S – both of them offer similar performance, while having all smart features at a cheaper price. Not to mention the Rabbit Air A3, which is a masterpiece of decor itself.

Even when you’re looking for pure performance like the base AirDoctor AD4000 we shared below, the Medify MA-112, Coway Airmega 450, and AeraMax SV should be considered, as they all have the highest performance per price at the moment.

AirDoctor AD4000 Design and Size

If you’ve used an AirDoctor purifier before, you’ll recognize much of the design language on the AirDoctor AD4000. There’s a new cylindrical housing on this unit, which AirDoctor is positioning as its sleek new design direction, though the touch control panel on top feels much the same as on previous AirDoctor units.

The tower design is narrow and tall – 14 inches wide, 14 inches deep and 28 inches tall – but the rounded cylindrical profile lets it tuck into a corner more easily than AirDoctor’s older rectangular units. One thing you should remember is that the AirDoctor AD4000 has a 360° air inlet, so you should place the unit at least 3 feet away from the wall for the best performance.

The AirDoctor AD4000 is the only air purifier from the brand with two different color options. Don’t know why AirDoctor experienced the new black color in the high-range air purifier like this AD4000, but the color isn’t as good as the graphite version of the Airmega 400. It looks more like a budget air purifier, similar to the Levoit Core 600S.

The AirDoctor AD4000 is a heavy unit, which you can expect from a high-range air purifier, at 15.76 lbs. Though it is lighter than the AirDoctor AD3500, it isn’t easy to move it around your house.

AirDoctor AD4000 Filters

The AirDoctor AD4000 features the signature 4-stage air cleaning system of AirDoctor:

1. Pre-filter – The pre-filter is designed to remove larger contaminates like dust and animal hair.
2. UltraHEPA filter – The True HEPA filter of AirDoctor, which is designed to capture ultra-fine PM 2.5 particles from the air. It is “independently tested” to remove 100% of airborne particles at 0.003 microns in size, 100 times smaller than the HEPA standard.
3. Activated Carbon filter – AirDoctor calls this filter a dual-action Carbon and VOC filter, as it can removes toxic ozone, gas, odors and VOCs from your indoor air. It can last for 6 months.
4. Ionizer – It can remove the smells and odors, and helps the air fresh. Can be switched on/off.

AirDoctor usually uses an H13 HEPA filter, under the name “UltraHEPA,” purely for marketing purposes. Still, the performance of the H13 HEPA filter is unquestioned, and the AirDoctor AD4000 makes good use of its filtration system.

And the AirDoctor AD4000 did fairly well in our test for its price range, capturing about 99% of all particles down to 0.3 microns in just 1 hour in a 600-square-foot room. The performance is a little behind the Nuwave OxyPure 47003, but not too much.

The all-in-one filter of the AirDoctor AD4000 is very big, but this is the only filter that requires replacement after 6 months. As a result, the annual filter replacement is quite high, even on a high-range air purifier.

AirDoctor AD4000 Room Coverage

Thankfully, the AirDoctor AD4000 is the only air purifier with a certified room coverage at 574 square feet, among AirDoctor lineup. If you plan to use the air purifier in the suggested 2,776 square feet of the manufacturer, it only exchanges air one time per hour.

The ACH of the AirDoctor AD4000 is 5X. In 574 square feet, the air purifier can exchange air every 12 minutes (it’s actually 12.5 minutes).

The CADR of the AirDoctor AD4000 is 393 Dust/ 370 Smoke/ 450 Pollen (cfm).

AirDoctor AD4000 Sound

The AirDoctor AD4000 isn’t an air purifier for its quiet operation, considering its nature of a large-room device, with huge fan and big filters. We recorded the noise level of the AirDoctor AD4000 around 30 decibels (dB), which is slightly better than the previous AirDoctor AD3500.

However, on its highest speed, the noise level of the AirDoctor AD4000 can be as high as 54 decibels, and it’s also higher than its competitors, like the Alen BreatheSmart 75i.

AirDoctor AD4000 Power Consumption

As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.

The AirDoctor AD4000 is an Energy Star air purifier, which is at the time of writing, the only AirDoctor air purifier in this database. Its rated power is 67 watts, which is far better than the later AirDoctor AD3500. Perhaps if the manufacturer is going to release the AirDoctor AD4500, the AirDoctor AD4000 is a good sample to build on.

So to say, if you run the AirDoctor AD4000 for 8 hours per day, you will pay for $29.37 each year.

AirDoctor AD4000 Additional Features

Other than that, the AirDoctor AD4000 is the same as the budget one like the AirDoctor AD1000, with Smart Sensor, timer, and light dimmer. The AirDoctor AD4000 features the Child lock setting, which is quite convenient when you have pets in your home (looking at you, cats).

Surprisingly, the AirDoctor AD4000 does fairly well despite its high price, though the air purifier still has room for improvement. The performance per watt of this air purifier is really a blessing among the AirDoctor lineup, and when you think of the high-end air purifier market with its lack of smart devices, the AirDoctor AD4000 is perhaps one of the best options out there.
