AirDoctor was founded in 2018 and is headquartered in California, launching with a single flagship model – the Airdoctor AD3000 – built around its proprietary UltraHEPA filter, which the brand markets as capturing particles 100 times smaller than the standard HEPA benchmark. Today, the company reworked the base AD3000 model into a better version, and you will read about it in our AirDoctor AD3500 review.

Other AirDoctor’s Air Purifier Reviews:

AirDoctor AD3500 Price

Ever since AirDoctor split its 3000-series purifier into a plain model and a smart one, the distinction between the two has come down to more than a simple price difference, and that’s especially true with the AirDoctor AD3500 and its Wi-Fi-enabled AD3500 Smart sibling, both of which are more capable for large rooms.

As a result, the AirDoctor AD3500 is more like a refined AirDoctor AD3000. Beyond the same performance and filtration, however, there’s a clear distinction in what the Smart model brings to the table compared to the Classic. It costs more, obviously, but it’s worth the investment.

Okay, the AirDoctor is selling the AirDoctor AD3500 from $559, which is slightly lower than the past AD3000. For the smart version – the AirDoctor AD3500i, the price is still lower at $609.

AirDoctor never tries to keep its air purifiers’ prices affordable. Take a look at the cheapest offerings from this company: the AirDoctor AD1000 and AirDoctor AD2000 start at $449. You need to pay even more for the AirDoctor AD4000 or AirDoctor AD5500. As you can see, this is a company targeting only the high-end segment.

At the current price of the AirDoctor AD3500 and AirDoctor AD3500i, you can consider the Blue Signature Large for a far better price. Other worthy mentions that we can talk here are the AeraMax SV, LG PuriCare AS330DWR0, Alen BreatheSmart 75i, Medify MA-112 and Rabbit Air MinusA2. Considering both performance and smart features, the AirDoctor AD3500 is a good option to pick.

AirDoctor AD3500 Design and Size

For the AirDoctor AD3500, you get a familiar shape across both the Classic and Smart models, with the now-recognizable magnetic front panel (matte plastic on both variants), as well as recessed carrying ridges that make the unit noticeably easier to move than its bulk would suggest.

The rectangular, glossy-white form and 15.75 x 8.75-inch footprint combine to make the AirDoctor AD3500 a compact, if not especially eye-catching, floor-standing air purifier, and even accounting for its 23-inch height, the AirDoctor AD3500’s silhouette has been consider a typical console air purifier.

So far, the AirDoctor AD3500 is exactly the old AirDoctor AD3000 in my memory. Sadly, we don’t have the AD3000 anymore to compare, but the overall design and button placement feel similar. The highlight is, again, the air quality color ring above the AirDoctor logo. It’s so iconic that AirDoctor kept it for its more expensive models, like the AirDoctor AD4000 and AirDoctor AD5500.

Remember, this AirDoctor AD3500 is heavy at 24 lbs, so it isn’t advisable to move the air purifier often.

AirDoctor AD3500 Filters

AirDoctor always tell about UltraHEPA as a beyond-HEPA filtration, and the company keeps the AirDoctor AD3500 just the same as the previous AirDoctor AD3000, with a 4-stage air cleaning system.

  1. Pre-filter – The pre-filter is designed to remove larger contaminates like dust and animal hair. It is washable, and you can reuse the filter under normal use.
  2. Activated Carbon filter – AirDoctor calls this filter a dual-action Carbon and VOC filter, as it can removes toxic ozone, gas, odors and VOCs from your indoor air. It can last for 6 months.
  3. UltraHEPA filter – The True HEPA filter of AirDoctor, which is designed to capture ultra-fine PM 2.5 particles from the air. It is “independently tested” to remove 100% of airborne particles at 0.003 microns in size, 100 times smaller than the HEPA standard.
  4. Ionizer – It can remove the smells and odors, and helps the air fresh. Can be switched on/off.

As a revision of the previous AirDoctor AD3000, it isn’t a surprise to see the AirDoctor AD3500 to have the same performance. In practice, it does a convincing job, with resultant particle counts that suggest genuinely effective filtration is running, even though the branding leans hard on marketing language like “100x smaller than HEPA.”

We tested the AirDoctor AD3500 in the new conditions for our air purifier ranking list version 3.0, and this air purifier does pretty good, capturing 99.35% of all particles down to 0.3 microns. It’s only behind the newer Nuwave OxyPure model 47005.

AirDoctor AD3500 review

The AirDoctor AD3500 still uses the same UltraHEPA filter set from the previous AD3000, so you need to replace filter after 1 year. The filter set is costlier at the moment, up to $179.

AirDoctor AD3500 Room Coverage

AirDoctor never chooses AHAM as the organization to verify its products. Instead, the company looks for an Energy Star rating, and the AirDoctor AD3500 is certified for rooms up to 678 square feet.

The ACH of the AirDoctor AD3500 is 5X. At appropriate room size, the air purifier can clean your room every 12 minutes.

The CADR of the AirDoctor AD3500 is 339 Dust/ 336 Smoke/ 399 Pollen (cfm). It is nearly identical to the previous AirDoctor AD3000.

AirDoctor AD3500 Sound

AirDoctor air purifiers use WhisperJet fan design to deliver quiet, sealed-system airflow. The AirDoctor AD3500 improves the lowest noise level at around 34 decibels (dB).

The WhisperJet fans also handle sustained high-speed operation well, which in practice holds up for continuous large-room use. On its highest speed, the noise level of the AirDoctor AD3500 is at 59 decibels, which is noisier than the Rabbit Air MinusA2.

AirDoctor AD3500 Power Consumption

As one of the most criteria when deciding to buy an air purifier, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient.

The AirDoctor AD3500 was certified by Energy Star, and it has a rated power of 85 watts. However, at the time of writing, the AirDoctor AD3500 is no longer on the Energy Star list.

So to say, if you run the AirDoctor AD3500 for 8 hours per day, you will pay for $30 each year.

AirDoctor AD3500 Additional Features

The AirDoctor app debuts on the AirDoctor AD3500i, and while the majority of the features are straightforward, one of the most tangible additions is remote air quality monitoring that lets you check your room’s readings and change filter alerts from your phone. If you don’t need this feature, you can stick with the base AirDoctor AD3500.

AirDoctor AD3500 review

AirDoctor may not have changed the AirDoctor AD3500’s core control layout much compared to the AD3000, but it’s maintained the intuitive physical controls, including the color-coded Halo air quality ring and a 24-hour timer.

Finally, we have LED indicator for filter replacement, and a Light dimmer.

Our verdict

The AirDoctor AD3500, specifically the AirDoctor AD3500i smart version, is the better choice than the previous AD3000. We still wish it to have better annual cost, but overall it’s a solid option to pick at $500.
