RENPHO RP-AP002 Price

Even when air purifiers reach the $1000 or $2000 mark, the air purifier market is still more energetic in low-range segment. For years, new air purifier brands need to dominate in the lowest budget segment, before they have enough potential to reach a higher level. That’s the case of Levoit, Airthereal and RENPHO.

Now, when Levoit gains more presence even in mid-range market, it’s time for RENPHO to make a move. That is to say, the RENPHO RP-AP002 is a beginning of the next era for this American company. There is only one problem, it isn’t much different from the most popular RENPHO RP-AP001.

RENPHO charges you just $149, meaning the RENPHO RP-AP002 is just a new shell for an old air purifier. Maybe RENPHO still want to focus on defeating the Levoit LV-PUR131, instead of heading on with the bigger Levoit LV-H133 and Levoit LV-H135.

It is good strategy, though, as it isn’t easy to just jump on higher-range segment quickly. Even with that low price, the RENPHO RP-AP002 needs to compete against tough opponents like Airthereal APH260, Honeywell HPA200 or Medify MA-14.

As the latest effort to gain further market share in the U.S market, would the RENPHO RP-AP002 win over these already good air purifiers? We will find out, soon.

RENPHO RP-AP002 Design and Size

With each new device released by different manufacturers across the globe, it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell air purifiers apart. However, some manufacturers are doing their best at making the signature air purifiers, one that you can’t find with other names.

RENPHO did quite good previously with their RENPHO RP-AP068, and though the RENPHO RP-AP001 doesn’t make significant difference from common console air purifiers, it still marks its own thing. RENPHO RP-AP002 borrows the same idea from the previous models, with 2 LED air quality indicators. This time, I think of them as eyes rather than ears.

For the rest of the design, it is largely true as the RENPHO RP-AP002 is just a common console air purifier. However, I think our white model which arrived for review is something a little different, and is quite attractive.

It is bigger than any previous RENPHO models, with 24 inches in height, and 16 inches in width. In addition to the two legs, the air purifier looks more solid on the ground.

RENPHO RP-AP002 makes use of a common bottom-to-top air flow system concept, but this time, the air inlet is positioned in the back. Something slightly odd is RENPHO doesn’t make air inlet grill behind the front plate like in the RP-AP001, making it quite difficult to place the RENPHO RP-AP002. Generally, you will place your air purifier with the back facing the wall, where it draws less air than in the front.

The position of buttons is also weird, too, as RENPHO places them in the front, instead of on top.

RENPHO RP-AP002 weighs 20.4 lbs, and this air purifier is the heaviest air purifier in the whole family. Luckily, it has a convenient handle from the back to help you carry it.

RENPHO RP-AP002 Filters

To check the performance of one air purifier, normally we will check the quality and quantity of air filters inside it, as well as the air filter types. RENPHO RP-AP002 makes use of the same 5-stage air cleaning system as the previous model.

1. Pre-filter – A preliminary filter removes large particles like hair or pet dander. It also covers the True HEPA filter, and prolong its life time. Can be washable.
2. Charcoal filter – Adsorbs odors and captures large dust.

You don’t need to compare the RENPHO RP-AP002 vs RENPHO RP-AP001, as they both use the same air filter set. If you are using the RP-AP001 and you want to check the specs of RENPHO RP-AP002, you now understand that they have the same internals.

RENPHO RP-AP002 has an extra charcoal filter, to increase the efficiency of adsorbing odors. The main Activated Carbon filter is made of thick coconut shell, in honeycombed shape. It is perfect for trapping any household odors, smoke and chemicals.

Use the same air filter as the RP-AP001, the RENPHO RP-AP002 has a True HEPA filter, with antibacterial treatment coating. It can last longer, and prevent the bacteria and germs inside the air back to your room. The air filter set of RENPHO RP-AP002 is also certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for ozone emission safety.

The efficiency of RENPHO RP-AP002 isn’t different too much from the previous model, because I made the same test for these two air purifiers in the same 150-square-feet room. Also, I chose the Hathaspace, InvisiClean Sensa and Envion Allergy Pro AP200 to compare with the performance of these two. RENPHO RP-AP002 finished with high efficiency as expected, trapping 99.9% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns. The only air purifier that had higher efficiency than our today reviewed unit is the Airthereal APH260, with 99.93% score, thanks to its extra ionizer feature.

Using the same filter as the RP-AP001, it is recommended to change the air filter for RENPHO RP-AP002 every 6 months. The air filter, however, is truly affordable with only $29 for a full set.

RENPHO RP-AP002 Room Coverage

RENPHO RP-AP002 is suggested for a room of 320 square feet by the manufacturer, meaning 20 feet larger than the RENPHO RP-AP001. In real-world use, such difference is negligible.

The ACH of RENPHO RP-AP002 is 3X. Even for the flagship, RENPHO RP-AP002 can only exchange the air in your room 3 times per hour.

The CADR of RENPHO RP-AP002 is 147 cfm in general. Basically, the fan power between two flagship models of RENPHO is the same.

RENPHO RP-AP002 Sound

You can easily guess the specifications of RENPHO RP-AP002 from now on. Using nearly the same internals as the RENPHO RP-AP001, our today reviewed unit bears the same noise level. It is 35 decibels (db) on lowest speed, and can be as high as 52 decibels on highest speed.

But just like any RENPHO air purifiers, the RENPHO RP-AP002 is treated for bedroom, so it can dim the light and have a Sleep Mode setting, to give you the most restful sleep.

RENPHO RP-AP002 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

However, the flagship is only a standard air purifier. If you need a smart air purifier to be connected with your smartphone, you should look for the RENPHO RP-AP001S.

For bedroom use, the RENPHO RP-AP002 can dim the light setting, as well as has a Sleep Mode to fix the fan speed on lowest. Moreover, thanks to the Timer, you can schedule the time off anytime between 2, 4 or 8 hours.

RENPHO RP-AP002 also has a Child Lock feature, so you don’t need to worry your setting can be changed by your children or pets.
