So, is this new lower mid-range offering worth considering over the current competition? The answer is maybe, as the Sharp KC-F70-W doesn’t have any English instructions, just like the Sharp KC-B50 and Sharp KC-H50-W. It is more than an usual hindrance for U.S. users.

The Sharp KC-F70-W is often sold for just $330, and it is even cheaper than an official Sharp KC-850U with lower fan power. If Sharp can produce more air purifiers like the Sharp KC-F70-W in the U.S. market, we will certainly have a high-quality Japanese air purifier at a much cheaper price.

Again, we don’t see many hybrid air purifiers with humidifier functions at this price point. Only Oreck Air Refresh and Boneco H300 are the most proper competitors with our current unit, but they don’t have the core True HEPA filter inside. And for that, I lean on the Sharp KC-F70-W much more.

Sharp KC-F70-W Design and Size

The body of the Sharp KC-F70-W has a similar design to that of the previous Sharp KC-H50-W. To be fair, Sharp air purifiers are unique in design, but deep in the family, one would be likely to borrow the same design from the others.

We will have an all-plastic body with a bigger size than its predecessor: 25 inches in height and 16.5 inches in width. However, the difference isn’t that big to realize unless you put all the Sharp air purifiers side by side to compare.

As I’ve mentioned before, the Sharp KC-F70-W is exactly the same design as its relative. It has a plain white color with brushed rays on the surface. It also uses a similar bottom-to-top airflow system concept, covered by exactly the same air grills.

Using the same design language as the Korean high-end Winix HR1000, the Sharp KC-F70-W has a top LCD display that is over the top control panel. It is also available in many native air purifiers from Sharp.

As a bigger device, the Sharp KC-F70-W weighs 19 lbs. And this time, you don’t have the casters like in the case of the Sharp KC-H50-W. Well, this time, you need to move it yourself.

Sharp KC-F70-W Filters

Sharp doesn’t change the air filtration system for many years, because it’s so proud of its signature Plasmacluster technology. In this Sharp KC-F70-W, we have a similar 3-stage air filtration system.

1. Activated Carbon filter – It helps reduce pet odors and smoke, as well as some common household chemicals.
2. True HEPA filter – The True HEPA Filter captures 99.97% of as small as 0.3 microns of particles like pollen, dust, pet dander, smoke, germs, bacteria, viruses, odors, mold, and fungus.
3. Plasmacluster Technology – This technology is one kind of ionizer, which can further reduce the amount of pollutants. Can be switched on/off.

The signature air filtration system of Sharp is present, but without a certification by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for having a safe ozone emission concentration. It is reasonable because Sharp doesn’t cover any warranties on this air purifier, and the company doesn’t release it as an official product on the U.S. market either.

But don’t get it wrong. All air filters made by Sharp are widely used by many popular air purifier companies at the moment. For example, the True HEPA filter of the Sharp KC-F70-W is high-quality and high-efficiency, and it can last for 2 years before losing its performance.

In addition, we have the signature Plasmacluster technology for this air purifier. This technology is awarded as the best air cleaning method in Japan, as it emits both positive and negative ions into the air to form hydroxyls that decompose the protein and suppress the activity of the viruses. This technology can even remove static electricity and doesn’t release any ozone at all.

If you need a comparison test for this Sharp KC-F70-W with all its brothers, I made one in a room of 200 square feet for 1 hour. I must admit, the Sharp KC-F70-W had almost as high an efficiency as the Sharp KC-860U, but at a much lower price.

The Sharp KC-F70-W is capable of much larger rooms than its predecessor, even though the ion density of this air purifier is just 7000/cm³. It is recommended for use in 430 square feet.

Our verdict

The Sharp KC-F70-W is really a good deal, especially when it costs much less than the Sharp KC-860U. However, without proper customer service and English instructions, it is still very difficult for US users to buy this product. Perhaps it is safe to stick with the model KC-860U.
