Elechomes EPI081 Price

Elechomes has delivered a stunning device with the Elechomes UC3101, and now they want a device to enter the lowest-range segment. So we have the Elechomes EPI081, a not-so-extraordinary air purifier, but what could we possibly expect from an air purifier under $100?

The Elechomes EPI081 comes with an attractive price tag of only $59 in the Elechomes official website, $30 cheaper than the next Elechomes EPI236. Such price makes it a direct competitor to some hot budget air purifiers at the moment, like the Levoit Vista 200, Airthereal ADH80, AeraMax 100 or GermGuardian AC4825.

This is the first time I’m reviewing an Elechomes air purifier on Breathe Quality. The Chinese air purifier manufacturer may be one of the smaller players, but it’s a big fish in that particular pond, with the same prominent presence as the Xiaomi, especially when the Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2S is available in the U.S.

Elechomes EPI081 Design and Size

The Elechomes EPI081 reminded us of many active budget air purifiers at the moment, like the Airthereal ADH50B or Levoit LV-H126. It has a cubic shape design, giving a feel of more sturdy and stable, even for a device with cheap materials.

In fact, the model of Elechomes EPI081 is really, really similar to another EPI081 model from Healthlead, a company based in China. Elechomes told us that this air purifier is actually from Healthlead, and they’re authorized to sell to the U.S from Healthlead.

It is so compact to handle and use, with the height of only 9.3 inches and the width of 6.3 inches. The Elechomes EPI081 can stand easily tabletop, or on bookshelf.

To be honest, a tabletop air purifier should have all the control panel on front, where the users can easily reach to. It is simple and easy to use and operate.

Operates the air filtration of Elechomes EPI081 is the popular bottom-to-top air flow system concept, which is similar to those like Levoit LV-H132 or Airthereal ADH80. You can also see a Push button at the center of the top air outlet. This is where you add the essential oils for some aromatherapy options. If you want this feature, perhaps only the Levoit LV-H128 can be a better option than the Elechomes EPI081.

However, thanks to the new appearance, the Elechomes EPI081 could be one of the most sleek budget air purifiers you can get for your home.

The Elechomes EPI081 is really easy to replace the filter, as you only need to turn it upside down, then spin to unlock and remove the air filter outside. The process to install the filter is as simple as the previous step.

This is one of the most lightweight air purifier you can have, as the Elechomes EPI081 weighs only 3.6 lbs. You can grab it wherever you want.

Elechomes EPI081 Filters

The Elechomes EPI081 is truly a wannabe Levoit LV-H132, as it has the same 3-stage air filtration system, marketed to be 100% ozone free.

1. Pre-filter – To trap large pollutants like hair, lint and fur.
2. True HEPA filter – Filters any PM2.5 particles like dust, pollen, smoke… with high efficiency up to 99.97%.
3. Activated Carbon filter – Minimizes all odors, formaldehyde and benzene.

Elechomes EPI081 is a common air purifier with 3-stage air filtration, so it can be both easy to maintain and unable to emit ozone, which cause asthma attack or many other breathing issues.

The Elechomes EPI081 is tested within a room of 100 square feet, and I let it run for 1 hour. I also chose the SilverOnyx 3-in-1 and Levoit Vista 200 to compare with the performance of our today air purifier. The result, the Elechomes EPI081 only had the lowest performance, with efficiency of 99.3% for trapping particles down to 0.3 microns in size.

Just like many low-end air purifiers, the Elechomes EPI081 only requires you $15 for a filter replacement. I recommend to change the air filter once every 6 months.

Elechomes EPI081 Room Coverage

It is clearly that the Elechomes EPI081 is only suitable for personal use. In fact, the recommendation of the manufacturer to use this air purifier in a room of 215 square feet is quite… insufficient.

The ACH of Elechomes EPI081 is 2X. This air purifier will exchange the air in your room every 30 minutes.

The CADR of Elechomes EPI081 is 47 cfm in general. Such fan power is nearly the same as the Levoit Vista 200, but its performance is still lower than the Amazon’s Choice air purifier.

Elechomes EPI081 Sound

We can’t deny the fact that a portable air purifier is always quieter than a big console air purifier. It only uses low fan power, and therefore, the device can achieve such whisper-quiet operation.

The noise level on lowest speed of Elechomes EPI081 is only 35 decibels (db), which is even lower than the noise in the library. You won’t notice any sound from this air purifier at the lowest setting for sure.

Even on highest speed, I’ve measured the noise level to be just 55 decibels. That being said, you can use the Elechomes EPI081 without worrying about it to be noisy.

Elechomes EPI081 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

Elechomes EPI081 has the rated power of only 21 watts, and the standby power can be as low as 2 watts. It is really, really low.

If you run the Elechomes EPI081 for at least 8 hours per day, you only need to pay $7.5 each year.

For an entry-level air purifier, the Elechomes EPI081 does support many additional features for the users, from the necessary Sleep Mode (to turn the fan speed on lowest, and dim all the lights) to the basic Timer (from 2, 4, 6 to 8 hours).

One unique selling point for the Elechomes EPI081 for budget under $100 is the aromatherapy option to improve the indoor air quality, for wellness of both mental and physical health. This option syncs perfectly with the air filtration process of one air purifier.

Finally, you will have a LED indicator for filter replacement, which will warn you after 3000 hours of use.

Elechomes EPI081 is a decent budget air purifier, with enough additional features for personal use. However, it has quite lower efficiency of trapping pollutants, and the customer service is quite difficult to reach. Therefore, I still think a Levoit LV-H132 or Airthereal ADH80 is still a better option.
