The Biota Bot doesn’t have a long history like other air purifier brands in North America, and we normally do not expect much that the Biota Bot MM608I can really excel in the way competitors like Winix or Sharp could with their advanced air filtration system.

However, the Biota Bot MM608I was one of the best air purifiers you could get for your large rooms. The fan power can go head-to-head with the things like Blue Pure 121 or, well, even the Austin Air HealthMate.

This is unmistakably a mid-range air purifier though. It may sports the high fan power, as well as good specs for air filtration process, but it also has a cheap plastic build and some middling specs – so how does the overall package shape up?

You can get the Biota Bot MM608I for $399, a price that is only higher than the previous Biota Bot MM208 a little bit. However, you won’t have the UV-C light filter as in the previous model.

With this price, the Biota Bot MM608I competes directly against the Whirlpool WPPRO2000 and Sharp FP-A80UW, and it can still manage to go against these beasts with its high fan power. In fact, with enough high fan power, Biota Bot MM608I is a budget solution for large rooms.

Biota Bot MM608I Design and Size

The size of this Biota Bot MM608I can match even the biggest one in the market, something like the Levoit LV-H134 or GermGuardian AC9400W. Actually, with the height of 31 inches and the width of 20 inches, putting the Biota Bot MM608I beside the giant Blueair Pro L and we can see the similarity.

Of course, the air purifier of Biota Bot is only made of plastic, and the build is not even close the league of other mid-range devices like Winix HR1000 or Alen BreatheSmart 45i, so we shouldn’t compare it with other high-end machines.

But if you require your air purifier to not be broken after the first use, the Biota Bot MM608I is still sturdy and solid to run. The white color option, which appears for the first time in Biota Bot family, is also a favorite option, especially when it suits the perforated air intake better. Again, I think of the Biota Bot MM608I as an upgraded version of the Winix HR900, with the sleek side-by-side order of perforated holes in the front plate.

After the previous model, Biota Bot MM608I expands the space for the air intake grills, and it also makes the air purifier more eye-catching. It uses the common bottom-to-top air flow system concept for console air purifiers.

The top control panel has been minimized to only core functions, and I prefer the top control panel from this air purifier more than Biota Bot MM208.

The Biota Bot MM608I weighs 27 lbs, which is even heavier than some top high-end devices. To move this air purifier around your home will not be an easy task for everyone.

Biota Bot MM608I Filters

To decide the performance of one air purifier, normally we will decide based on the quantity and quality of its air filters, as well as what air filter types are being used. The Biota Bot MM608I uses the powerful 5-stage air cleaning system to deal with all the pollutants.

Apart from the UV-C light filter from Biota Bot MM208, the Biota Bot MM608I runs the same core air filtration system, with only bigger size for the mechanical ones. We still have both the pre-filter and True HEPA filter to do the cleaning task, and this process is promised to capture up to 99.97% of any airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns.

The common trend to use ionizer in the mid-range devices is available for Biota Bot MM608I, too. It uses the same ionizer from the previous model, and can release 10 million ions per second, to support the capture of the main HEPA filter. However, just like any other Biota Bot air purifiers, the Biota Bot MM608I isn’t certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to meet the safety standard of not releasing too much ozone. Therefore, if you have asthma issues, you should be careful with this function.

The test of Biota Bot MM608I is conducted in a much larger room, as large as 300 square feet. I tested the Biota Bot MM608I thoroughly, and this air purifier can meet high efficiency of 99.9% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns in only 1 hour. In such a large room, the Biota Bot MM608I scored the lowest performance between air purifiers in the same price range, as you can see from the chart below. Other air purifiers, being as popular as the GermGuardian AC9400W or Levoit LV-H134, were still better with efficiency of 99.92%.

With bigger size, the Biota Bot MM608I doesn’t cost you a lot more than the MM208, with only $69 for a set of pre-filter, Activated Carbon and True HEPA filters. The HEPA filter of Biota Bot MM608I can last from 6 – 12 months.

Biota Bot MM608I Room Coverage

MamieMac Inc skipped the model 308, 408 and 508 directly into the Biota Bot MM608I for a good reason, the air purifier can handle a much larger space, as suggested to be at least 860 square feet (double the room coverage of Biota Bot MM208).

Biota Bot MM608I Sound

Unfortunately, bearing such a high fan power always makes the air purifier to operate loudly, and the Biota Bot MM608I is not an exception. However, it still manage to keep the noise level as high as its smaller brother, to be only 60 decibels (db) at the highest setting.

Because the noise level on lowest speed is quite silent, I recommend you to use the device with the Auto Mode on, so it will always keep the fan speed as low as possible.

Biota Bot MM608I Power Consumption

An air purifier is designed to run for a long time to be more efficient, making the high-priority question in Breathe Quality is: “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” To know the answer, we will need to check the power consumption of this air purifier.

We can’t expect the big gun like Biota Bot MM608I to run with low rated power, right? In real-world use, I measured the power consumption of this Biota Bot MM608I to be at least 130 watts at the highest setting. So to say, the energy saving is not a strength of the Biota Bot air purifier.

Biota Bot MM608I Additional Features

The Biota Bot MM608I is the flagship of this family, and there is no way it will miss such good things in previous models like Smart Sensor or Sleep Mode. Smart Sensor is a must-have feature in high-end air purifiers, as it can help adjust the fan speed automatically depending on the current indoor air quality. This feature is available even in the first Biota Bot MM108, and we are glad to have it on Biota Bot MM608I again.

The Sleep Mode is quite simple, it puts our air purifier to the lowest fan speed, so the device won’t interrupt you at midnight with high noise level. The Max Mode is quite like the Turbo Mode on other air purifiers, to simply run this air purifier on highest speed.

Biota Bot MM608I features the Child lock function for the first time, and this air purifier can prevent accidental changes of the settings, either by your children or your pets. And finally, we will have a basic Timer to schedule the time off of this machine.

Biota Bot MM608I Customer Service

There is only one problem with the Biota Bot products, and it is the customer service. As a small company, MamieMac Inc can only provide contact as email, at the address of biotabot@gmail.com.

They don’t state the policy on their website, but you can make a refund within 30 days for any reasons making you not satisfied with their products. Moreover, all Biota Bot are backed up with a 3-year warranty, which is good enough to rely on the devices.

Our verdict

Together with the high fan power, we will have an extreme powerful air filtration system, with at least 5 stages to help remove all the indoor pollutants.

However, the bulky air purifier of Biota Bot still has many weaknesses, as it operates quite loudly and quite energy-wasting, especially at the highest setting. To help you live with this air purifier, Biota Bot MM608I has a built-in air sensor to keep the air purifier always on lowest speed.
