Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr Price
If you are looking for an Austin Air feature-packed air purifier that matches with your decor and performs brilliantly, then you’ll be very pleased with the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr, as well as others in the Junior Series like Austin Air HealthMate Jr or Austin Air HealthMate Plus Jr.
This air purifier is also one of the latest entrants in Austin Air’s rapidly expanding line of compact Junior Series product line. Though the original HealthMate Junior was launched not long ago, there have since been three different devices to meet the demands of a budget Austin Air air purifier. The Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is one among those, and you can easily guess it is the smaller version of the standard Austin Air Allergy Machine.
There is also been the latest Austin Air Baby’s Breath, that is, in another description, the more colorful version of this Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr. They share the same price, too. The Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr starts from $435, which is $20 higher than the HealthMate Jr. The upgrade is just half the cost of the same in bigger versions, as the Allergy Machine will cost you $40 more than the original Austin Air HealthMate. If you want to have the casters, you need to pay $30 more. All junior models have been discontinued.
This is the same price range of the Sharp KC-850U and Oransi Max. If you can’t afford the price of this Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr, you could be happy to find the Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 and Sharp FP-A80UW both even lower than the level of $400. So, which one do you choose? Below is a deal of an Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr, and there only be limited items in stock. SO grab it quickly.

Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr Design and Size
The Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr, like any others in Junior Series line, takes design cues from the bigger Austin Air Allergy Machine, namely in the signature Austin Air all-steel housing design. It is baked on powder coat paint finish, too, to prevent any off-gassing of chemical vapors, both within the clean air stream and in the unit’s end-of-life phase.
For the dimensions, the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is 16.5 inches in height, and 11 inches in width. This is the basic shape and size of any air purifiers under the Junior name. With this size, the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is about half the size of its bigger brother.
The felt gaskets will seal the filter chamber to maximize the air filtration performance. This is a must-have feature on any portable air purifiers, and out of all devices I’ve reviewed, the Austin Air family is undeniable the best.
I will repeat about the same design concept in every Austin Air machine, as there is not even a slightest change on the outside, except the obvious logo name. Interesting, with such similar design, even the budget air purifier like the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is powerful with the 360° air intake system. This is the best air system at the moment, which can only be operated with a strong fan, to pull in more air than normal.
Just like any other machines of this company, the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved – the highest certification for any electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and gas products that meet the strict requirement to be safety.
You still have the 4 basic main color options for this air purifier: Black, Midnight Blue, White and Sandstone. Our testing unit this time is a Midnight Blue one, and personally, this is my most favorite color for an Austin Air device.
The Austin Air HealthMate Plus Jr is only 17 lbs, which is even lighter than the Austin Air HealthMate Jr or Austin Air HealthMate Plus Jr. You can have an optional installment of casters to move this air purifier much easier.

Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr Filters
When checking the performance of one air purifier, normally we will check the quantity of air filters and what air filter types in this device. Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr, though being small, keeps the new 4-stage air cleaning system from the Austin Air Allergy Machine.
- Pre-filter – During the first stage, Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr will capture any large objects of airborne pollutants which can be seen by the naked eye, such as large dust, pet hair, fur and even some pet dander particles.
- Medium Particle Pre-filter – Just like Rabbit Air MinusA2, Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr makes use of a double pre-filtration, and can remove small to medium size particles like dust, pollen and mold spores in this stage.
- True HEPA filter – The 30-sq-ft Medical-grade True HEPA filter of Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr can remove 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 microns, and even 95% of all particles larger than 0.1 microns.
- HEGA filter – It is composed of a carbon cloth and is more efficient than a normal Activated Carbon filter at adsorption of gaseous pollutants, chemicals, and odors.
The Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is a basic air purifier of this company, with the powerful double pre-filtration. It is high-quality, and can remove even the small-size particles, and leave only the ultra-fine particles for the HEPA filter. Therefore, the True HEPA filter can easily last 5 years.
I particularly appreciate how Austin Air has kept such broad size of True HEPA filter in a much smaller machine like Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr and feel that 30 square feet are a lot bigger than flagships in many other brands. Most manufacturers seem bafflingly keen to tell about the True HEPA filter, but this the Medical-grade certified one that can remove even the tiniest pollutants as small as 0.1 microns.
Austin Air also introduces the military HEGA (High Efficiency Gas Adsorption) filter in the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr and Austin Air Baby’s Breath. This is the air filter which is invented first by the British Army to deal with chemical warfare. The performance of this military-grade activated carbon cloth is truly a selling point, as it can provide an extremely large surface area for adsorption of chemicals, gases, viruses and bacteria.
But, just like any others, I can’t make an honest review without the performance test. This time, I chose the Winix HR1000, Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 and Sharp FP-A80UW to test the performance of this Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr. I let them all run in a room of 200 square feet, for 1 hour. Finally, the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr was the winner, with the efficiency of 99.97% for trapping any allergens as small as 0.3 microns. The Winix HR1000 was the runner-up, with 99.95%. The Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 can only end up with 99.92%. You can see other performance tests for many air purifiers in the same testing conditions in this below chart.
The Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr’s filter cost is also more affordable, with only $205. And because you only need to replace one in 5 years, the annual filter replacement cost is only $41, which is even more reasonable than buying the Alen BreatheSmart FIT50 or Blueair Classic 405.

Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr Room Coverage
For the fan power, this American company just simply reduce the room capability of Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr to only 700 square feet. But just don’t fall for the manufacturer’s suggested room size, because you need to know the CADR rating to decide one air purifier’s fan power.
The ACH of Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is 2X to 4X. It means the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr can exchange the air in your room up to 4 times per hour.
The CADR of Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is 200 cfm in general. With a lower CADR rating than the Winix HR1000 or Sharp KC-860U, the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr is not a fast device in cleaning your room.

Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr Sound
Looking at the very high noise level of the Austin Air Allergy Machine, I expect a much quieter air purifier this time. The answer is, not much it seems. Even with a smaller size fan, the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr still draws a lot of noise.
The range of noise level is from 49 to 65 decibels (db). If you compare with the noise level of Rabbit Air BioGS 2.0 (20 decibels) or Alen BreatheSmart 45i (39-55 decibels), you will not accept such high noise level of this Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr. In fact, there are more than one reviews told that they need to move the air purifier away from their bedrooms.
However, the noise level is still lower than the threshold we called “noise”, and if you don’t have any problem with the sound, you still can run this air purifier.

Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr Power Consumption
In Breathe Quality, one of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?”. In fact, an air purifier needs to run for a long time (usually more than 8 hours) to be efficient, and therefore, power consumption is an important criteria to decide which air purifier to buy.
The Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr has a Permanent-Split Capacitor (PSC) motor to draw less current and reduce your operating costs. But the power consumption of this air purifier is still too high, from 56 watts to 80 watts. I have no idea what the advanced motor is doing to keep minimalizing the noise and the energy of this air purifier.
For running an Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr 8 hours per day, you need to pay from $20 to $30 annually.

Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr Additional Features
The Austin Air family is the first and the foundation of an air purifier industry in North America. They choose to constantly improve the high quality of air filter over adding any kinds of additional features. It is also the trend of any high-end air purifiers which aims at the high-quality purification, not the flashy features.
There won’t be even the filter replacement indicator or the Timer. There is only one manual knob to change the fan speed of this machine.
If you like to add the Smart Sensor, a great feature to automatically adjust the fan power to suit the current indoor air quality, you need to buy the Oransi Max. Or you can choose between the Sharp KC-850U or the Sharp KC-860U for the humidifier function. It is your choice, right?

Our verdict
Another option for the budget Austin Air air purifier, but the Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr offers too little for the extra $20 from Austin Air HealthMate Jr. But if you ask me to buy it or not, perhaps, but only when you are exposed to viruses and bacteria, or when you live in damp environment.
