KOIOS PM1220 Price

If you are looking for an air purifier with the title of “True HEPA filter” for just only $39, meaning even cheaper than the KOIOS EPI810, I’m tempted to say that it doesn’t exist (yet). At the very least, the KOIOS PM1220 isn’t that air purifier, thanks to terrible performance and a substandard ‘True HEPA filter’.

With this device, you can also find the Mooka PM1220 for a different color option. Actually, as far as I can tell, there are identical versions of not only air purifiers, but also any household products offered by both Mooka and KOIOS. So, it is safe to grab either the Mooka PM1220 or KOIOS PM1220, depending on your taste.

That said, with a price tag of just only $49, and can reduce to just only $39, the KOIOS PM1220 is one of the cheapest air purifiers I’ve reviewed so far. However, I think the hOmeLabs air purifier is still a better deal for not ranking F.

Commonly, you must spend $10 to $20 more for a budget portable air purifier. Airthereal ADH50B, Bissell MyAir, RENPHO RP-AP068 and Levoit LV-H126 are the kings of this range, thanks to their high-quality True HEPA filters and attractive designs. If you need more additional features for the air purifier, maybe the Partu BS-03 and Partu BS-08 are your best bet.

KOIOS PM1220 Design and Size

It’s no surprise that the KOIOS PM1220 design appears to be from other popular American brand. The aim of this air purifier is to keep costs down, which means you get a relatively same Airthereal ADH50B homage option.

What it is though is practical. It’s easy to build an air purifier with popular design, and the company can make sure the upfront cost is low enough. You’ll find an air purifier with 270° air intake from the bottom, to perform a trustworthy bottom-to-top air flow system concept, with a big air outlet on top.

It’s super compact with just only 10 inches in height, and 6.3 inches in width. For an air purifier using metal for its shell, KOIOS PM1220 is just only 4 lbs. However, it is still heavier than the KOIOS EPI810.

KOIOS PM1220 has only one button for operating. It is reasonable for an air purifier in budget range to not have any additional features.

KOIOS PM1220 Filters

The KOIOS PM1220 still uses the same 3-stage air cleaning system as others in KOIOS family, but it has 3 sets of air filters to capture more pollutants.

1. Pre-filter – The preliminary carbon filter can remove any large objects with size bigger than 100 microns, like pet, lint and fur.
2. True HEPA filter – Eliminates 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust or dust mites.
3. Activated Carbon filter – Captures and neutralizes various household odors caused by cooking, smoking and other natural and unnatural gasses.

As the KOIOS PM1220 is running 3 sets of air filters, the performance isn’t as dire as you may expect from a budget device. However, to know the performance, we still need a test. In a room of 100 square feet and for 1 hour, I let the KOIOS PM1220 run continuously to check its performance. I also used the Jinpus, Mooka PM1220 and Mooka EPI810 to compare with this device.

As you can see from the chart below, the KOIOS PM1220 was the best performer, with efficiency up to 99% for trapping any particles down to 0.3 microns.

You should change the air filter every 6 months, and fortunately, KOIOS sells all three air filters in just one set.

KOIOS PM1220 Room Coverage

The KOIOS PM1220 is an air purifier for small rooms, so it can only cover a space of 215 square feet with its fan power.

The ACH of KOIOS PM1220 is 2X. This air purifier will clean your room every 30 minutes.

The CADR of KOIOS PM1220 is 47 cfm in general. Such fan power is even better than the more expensive KOIOS EPI810. Really, if you don’t need the Night Light function, the KOIOS PM1220 would be better.

KOIOS PM1220 Sound

KOIOS only makes air purifiers with low fan power, so obviously the quiet operation should be their selling point, because low fan power generally cause less noise.

On lowest speed, I’ve measured the noise level of this KOIOS PM1220 to be only 20 decibels (db) – such noise level of the rustling leaves. Basically you won’t notice any sound when it is operating.

With only 2 fan speeds, the KOIOS PM1220 switches to the highest setting at 50 decibels, which is a lot noisier than the previous fan speed. However, it is still in the range we can withstand while sleeping.

KOIOS PM1220 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

The KOIOS PM1220 is really affordable to maintain, as its power consumption can be as low as 3.5 watts.

If you use the KOIOS PM1220 for 8 hours per day, you only need to spend $1.25 each year.

KOIOS PM1220 Additional Features

Being an air purifier with “ease of use” in its core, the KOIOS PM1220 won’t feature any new technologies besides air filtration. There is no additional feature for the device, as well as the Mooka counterpart – Mooka PM1220.

If you like Night Light function, you must select the KOIOS EPI810 instead. Or you can select the Airthereal ADH50B with similar design, because the better air purifier from Airthereal can offer a LED indicator for filter replacement.

Our verdict

Well, we get a very cheap air purifier from KOIOS, with even better performance than the popular KOIOS EPI810. It’s a well put together device for the price.

However, its cheap and cheerful appeal is critically hobbled by terrible performance, forcing us to recommend that you pay just a little extra for an air purifier that will be much easier to live with.
