Mooka PM1220 Air Purifier: Trusted Review & Specs

The Mooka PM1220 takes its black color from the ‘other’ KOIOS PM1220, making us confused about the relationship between two brands. Today, we will see how similar these two air purifiers are, in our Mooka PM1220 Review.

Although the Mooka PM1220 didn’t rank F like its KOIOS counterpart (surprisingly), it seems the air purifier is discontinued. Both the Airthereal ADH50B and Levoit LV-H128 are better recommendations at this price range.

Mooka is the same air purifier brand from another company with base in Shenzhen, just like KOIOS. However, they both offer the same device with different name, and I guess it is a tactic to test different pricing for one product. Mooka PM1220 Price

China is the house of a lot of crazily budget air purifier brand, and both Mooka and KOIOS are selling the cheapest air purifiers we can find on the Internet.

The Mooka PM1220 might be the black version of the KOIOS PM1220, but it raises the price to $49. Strange, it has more reviews than even the more affordable option.

However, it’s far from a radical makeover – sharing the same moniker as the KOIOS counterpart. There is no quality-of-life improvement to expect from such completely the same device.

A much better performance can be found from the Airthereal ADH50B, Levoit LV-H126 or Partu BS-08 in the same price range. However, if you want a good value for your indoor air quality, you should at least spend $89 to $99 for an air purifier, having a Levoit Vista 200 or Airthereal ADH80.

Mooka PM1220 Design and Size

There is no way you can separate a Mooka EPI810 with the KOIOS EPI810 when removing the label. Well, at least this time we can know which air purifier is from Mooka, but sadly, the difference is just as subtle as the color option.

I may repeat for the sixth times, but the Mooka PM1220 is completely the black version of the KOIOS PM1220. So for the design and size, these air purifiers are totally the same.

So for anyone who is new to our website, you get a Mooka PM1220 with dimension of 10 inches for the height and 6.3 inches for the width. This air purifier uses the same bottom-to-top air flow system concept, with a 270° air intake from the bottom.

If you need to change the filter, you must flip it upside down, and uninstall the three filters. The process is simple to do alone, without requirement of any tools.

Mooka PM1220 uses only one button on the front to operate. It fits with the matte black shell and silver bezel around the device, and in my opinion, I love the Mooka PM1220 much more than the KOIOS counterpart.

Mooka PM1220 is just only 4 lbs, so compact to bring anywhere in your home. It is also a great tabletop air purifier.

Mooka PM1220 Filters

The Mooka PM1220 uses the same 3-stage air filtration system just like the KOIOS PM1220, which effectively reduce health risks from air pollutants.

1. Pre-filter – A sheet of carbon that captures the large object of pollutants.
2. True HEPA filter – Eliminates 99.97% of any particles as small as 0.3 microns, like pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust or dust mites, which covers most of PM2.5 and PM10.
3. Anti-bacterial filter – It is actually Activated Carbon filter, to neutralize various household odors caused by cooking, smoking and other natural and unnatural gasses.

Mooka PM1220 may uses different name for marketing, but it is the same air filtration system running in the KOIOS PM1220. Well, the Activated Carbon filter is now the Anti-bacterial filter, to neutralize the odors and release the fresh air back to your room.

So look at the performance test chart, you can see the similarity between these two models. In the same room of 100 square feet, the Mooka PM1220 can trap 99% of all particles down to 0.3 microns in size.

You can use the same air filter as the KOIOS counterpart, but I’ve found the genuine Mooka filter replacement. Also remember to change the filter every 6 months, for optimal performance.

Mooka PM1220 Room Coverage

Because the internals of Mooka PM1220 is basically the same as the KOIOS PM1220, we can easily realize that the room coverage isn’t changed, remaining at 215 square feet.

The ACH of Mooka PM1220 is 2X. This air purifier will clean your room every 30 minutes.

The CADR of Mooka PM1220 is 47 cfm in general.

Mooka PM1220 Sound

Again, I must tell you to not worry about the noise level of any portable air purifiers with such low fan power. So to say, another air purifier with quiet operation, with average noise level below 35 decibels (db). It is just like the whisper, and you won’t notice any sound while using.

If you aren’t sensitive to sound, you can use this air purifier at the highest setting, which is only labeled as “normal” in the Mooka PM1220. Yes, this air purifier only has 2 fan speeds, one is “normal” and one is “quiet”.

Mooka PM1220 Power Consumption

One of our most FAQs is “Do air purifiers use a lot of energy?” In fact, air purifier must be used for a long time to be efficient. And power consumption is one important criteria to review if this air purifier is good or not.

As the air purifier with low fan power and no additional features, the Mooka PM1220 has a power consumption of only 20 watts.

For anyone who will use the Mooka PM1220 8 hours per day, you only need to spend just $7 each year.

Mooka PM1220 Additional Features

Yeah, the entry-level air purifier of Mooka doesn’t have any additional features, but is that a big deal? No, I suppose. You have a budget air purifier for bedroom, mainly when you’re sleeping and really don’t care about any features. You just need pure air.

If you want a blue light for your bedroom, you should use the Mooka EPI810 instead, especially when it’s even cheaper than our today unit. There is an Airthereal ADH50B with similar design, but it has a LED indicator for filter replacement, so you don’t need to remember the date manually.

The website of Mooka is truly identical to KOIOS, and looking at the appearances of their air purifiers and other products, we can easily conclude these two brands as one. The truth, however, remains unknown to tell.

Our verdict

Actually, the Mooka PM1220 is just another color option for the KOIOS PM1220, with more expensive price tag. I really don’t think the aforementioned air purifier worth the investment, so for more $10, the Mooka PM1220 is obviously not in my list.

It is also discontinued. Airthereal ADH50B and Levoit LV-H128 are our recommendations at this price range.
